Refrigerator buzzing for 10 seconds every 4 or 5 minutes

Hello- I don't see any model number anywhere on the unit, it has no ice maker and the freezer is on top. About a week ago it started buzzing every 4 or 5 minutes and it lasts about ten seconds. A day later, I found it running but completely warm. I unplugged it and called maintenance. The maintenance guy said he couldn't do anything because when he plugged it in, it worked again. A couple days later it started buzzing again and then stopped working again. I unplugged it for a couple hours and plugged it back in and it worked. Another couple days and it's now buzzing again and appears to have died again. My maintenance guy says there's NOTHING he can do if he isn't here to see it in the "dead" condition. From the research I've done, it seems that every component can be tested for working properly. Maybe I'm wrong. From what I've read, it's probably the start relay. It sure sounds like a relay that's trying over and over to turn on but it's failing. The fact that it comes back after being unplugged indicates that the compressor is overheating. Am I close? Also, is this inefficiency running up my electric bill while I wait and wait for the maintenance guy to figure the problem out? Any reason this problem should take a week to figure out? Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated. THANK YOU buzzing noise every 3 or 4 minutes for about 10 seconds, then a click.

I have the exact same problem with my fridge! It stopped cooling (both the freezer and the refrigerator). I cleaned the coils and it started to work. But now its stopped working again and this annoying buzz has started up. lasts for several seconds, then stops for a few minutes. I know the buzz is coming from underneath, but I haven't figured out exactly where yet. any suggestions???

I had same problem and it started working by itself overnight again. Three weeks later, same problem with buzzing every few minutes and it totally quit. I tried unplugging it a couple of times and plugging back in to no avail.
Repair guy said it was a bad compressor and is replacing. Still under warranty for this. Maytag Proforma fridge.

Buzzing is usually a fan, like one in the freezer, or back bottom - for cooling the freon. The compressor over-heat usually will make a single click (off) and a few minutes later a click (on). If the fan in the freezer stops working well, the freezer will frost up and the fridge section will not be cold enough.

Really, the only moving parts are the fans, timer, and compressor. If you can give me a better discription perhaps I can help better.

SOURCE: refrigerator buzzing for 10 seconds every 4 or 5 minutes

I think you hit it right on the head. The start device is likely bad and trys to start the compressor (but can't) and it then overheats. If this type has a small white box on the left side of the compressor, take it off and shake it to see if it makes noise and debris falls out. That's the culprit. One more thing though, if your compressor has a decal with a little blue indian head drawing on it the compressor is also dead, otherwise you can just change the start device out and you should be good to go! There's a kit that replaces that type start device, comes with a new start device and overload along with the proper jumpers, etc. and it's REAL easy to install by yourself.

My F&P fridge freezer is making a loud buzzing sound which lasts for about 3 second every 30 seconds. even when the power is turned off

It is difficult to diagnose without providing a model number to your refrigerator however I am wondering it is equipped with an ice maker? It is common for fridges to come with one and many are not hooked up to a water line. If this happens, then the ice maker will continue to cycle trying to get water. The inlet valve in the back of the unit will buzz when there is no water pressure going to it. Please check your owners manual on how to turn the ice maker off if it has one and it is not hooked up.

If this is not the issue, then please give a model number for further assistance.

Buzzing sound Kitchen Aid fridge Model KBLA20EMSS

It may be the arm in the ice maker is down. Even though the ice maker does not have the water hooked up if the arm above the ice bin is down it will still cycle the ice maker try lifting up the arm it should stay up this signals the ice maker that the bin is full and should shut off the ice maker. Hope this helps.

is your ice maker hooked up?if no water is going to the ice maker and the arm is down it will buzz.also check the fans one in the freezer and one in the rear for the compressor and condenser, maybe a piece of paper is hitting the fan blade when the fan starts or it could be vibration in the frame, ytou can remove the bottom kickplate and you say every half hour or so it makes the sound and listen to see if you can pinpoint the noise, when you open the freezer door the evap fan will run,you can check that fan motor like that.you have to do a little detective work to find the noise but if the ice maker isn't hooked up to the water source and the arm is down it will buzz.good luck.

Loud buzzing noise for 3-10 seconds every hour or so.

Is your unit cooling? Get a temp gauge in there right away this might be a sign that you unit is about to fail. It could also be your ice maker, next time you hear it check the I/M to see if it is harvesting. If it is your compressor the noise would be coming from the bottom back of the unit.

Not producing ice. I've already checked the lines at the wall and the line that comes in at the freezer. They are not blocked. However, still not producing ice.

Check the following:

- The freezer temperature, it needs to be below 10 degrees F to cycle.

- If the freezer is cold enough lift the bail arm (wire on the right side of the ice maker in the freezer) until it clicks and stays up. Close the freezer and wait 20 minutes. Come back and lower the bail arm, watch the ice maker and you should see it cycle, you will notice the white 'fingers' rotating very slowly. Make sure the room is quiet, after the cycle runs for a bit, (minute or so) watch for the 'fingers' to be straight up in the 12 o'clock position, you should hear a buzz coming from behind the refrigerator for about 7 seconds. If you hear this sound then the ice maker is working and the temperature is ok. If you do not hear the buzz the most likely suspect is that the coil on the water valve in the back is bad, you will need your model number to find the right part.

Frigidaire side-by-side model # FRS26H5ASB4 making humming or buzzing noise

I had the same problem. I found the buzzing noise was caused by ice build up around the fan motor inside the freezer. I believe water must have leaked down around the fan during a defrost cycle. I removed the ice maker, the ice cube bin and ice dispenser auger motor. It sounds complicated, but it isn't too bad. The ice maker and auger are connected with quick connect plugs. So just unplug, remove the screws and remove them from the freezer. You will need to remove several other screws as well, I believe 11 in total as well as the top freezer rack. This will give you access to the white aluminum panel that runs from the top of the freezer to about halfway down the back of the freezer. After you remove the aluminum panel you will see the fan about half way down the freezer. I found a lot of ice around my fan. The fan blades were hitting the ice causing the buzz. Remove the ice and the buzzing is gone. It took me an hour to complete this repair. I hope this helps.
