I have T-Mobile 4g galaxy avant android phone. I do not have coverage n my ares 4 the Internet. Cam I hook WI-FI up 2 my desk top and accessories the inn tenet via my home wi-fi

You can get WI-FI anywhere WI-FI is available with a smart phone.
But if you only have a modem at home and an ethernet cable from the modem to your computer to get internet, then you may not have WI-FI at home.
You'll need to get a wireless router to have WI-FI at home.
Once you do that, you can continue to have your desktop hooked up by the ethernet cable, but you can also install a WI-FI adapter card in your desktop. It will have an antenna on the back of your computer and then you can set it up anywhere in your house and have internet without an ethernet cable.

Hello
Try this

1 disconnect all wires, including power from the modem and router.
2 Find reset button on router usually in the back, need a pen tip or paper clip to hold it in.
3 Hold in reset for 1 min.
4 Reconnect modem first,power up.
5 Reconnect router second, power up.

Try changing the ethernet wire from the modem to the router.

So your going to have your cable coax wire to the modem. Then a ethernet wire from the modem to the router, then a ethernet wire from the router to the computer.

Sounds like you may have one wire in the wrong place.

Thomson Cable modem has an ethernet connection...
The ethernet connection goes to your computer via a standard Cat5e patch cable. There is no USB that I know of...
Cablevision wire goes to the modem. It should be the first device on the cablevision wire. If you need a splitter, it needs to be a GOOD one, connected DIRECTLY to the incoming Cablevision wire as it enters the house. Use good copper wire.

Order of events:
Connect the cablevision wire to the Modem.
Connect the Ethernet cable to the computer and the modem.
Power on the cable modem.
Right click the network Icon near the clock and click 'repair' (Or reboot the computer)
Apply for and get an account for cable Internet from your Cable company.
After a few days, cable Internet should work.

you can buy longer Ethernet cables at places like radio shack or Best Buy. And just run it along the wall or under a rug of some sorts. Just shop around for the cheapest one. And measure the length you need.http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dynex%26%23174;+-+25'+Cat+6+Network+Cable+-+Gray/5688892.p?id=1055389307257&skuId=5688892&st=Ethernet%20cord&cp=1&lp=2

I have no computer or cable and need to set up internet on my PS3

??? A router will NOT replace your modem; the router won't work without the modem. If you're going to give advice, please make sure it is somewhat correct.

Okay. So first you need the telephone cord to go from the phone jack into the DSL port on your modem. Then you need the Ethernet cable that came with your modem (looks like a phone cord but much bigger) to go from the ethernet port in the back of the modem into the wan or internet port on the router. Verify that the DSL and internet lights are on on the modem.

For the rest of the setup, watch this . It will walk you step by step in connecting your PS3 to the wireless internet. Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.

Wired internet

The "smaller" plug you're talking about is an RJ45 plug, used for dial-up Internet - you'll get nowhere with that. You have a couple of options if you want to hook up your Ethernet cable. As you mentioned, yes there are plenty of USB to Ethernet adaptors out there, this is the simplest way of getting an Ethernet port on your computer. There are also PCI Ethernet Cards if you fancy your chances at installing it inside the computer, this will make it a little tidier and they're usually a little cheaper too. Your PCI slots, once installed will have the plugs located at the back of your PC, horizontally angled at the bottom - you usually have at least 4 slots, at the max of 7.
