Hi,

No the laptop has an in-built wireless card so there's no need for an add-on.
The switch is a slide switch which is at the very front of the laptop on the left hand side of the headphone and microphone jack.
When you slide the switch a LED will come on.

Regards.

My acer aspire 5050 won't keep a wireless connection. it switches on and off and i dont know where the wireless switch is or even if i have one?

The special connector on the cable may not have been connected correctly when it was put together. (If it has a cable, most don't) or the card is lose from the system (mother) board. Have a technician check it. You don't want to open a laptop unless you know what you are doing...you can easily do permanent damage. If you are set on doing it yourself, get online and find a manual that has full disassembly steps in it. If you have an HP you are in luck, they have great manuals. An Acer? I have no idea what they are like...

Wireless connection problems with Acer 5050

this can happen when the signal is too weak or when your pc has changed it's ip address to the default 168.254.0.1 or similair if it's tried a repair of the network. Check that your network card is set to obtain ip address automatically and restart if necassary.
