If you are looking for a free alternative, AVAST, Avira, AVG all have free versions with realtime protecton. My personal favorite is Malware bytes. However, the free version does not include Real time pretection. So, you will have to run scans periodically.

before formating your hdd, I'd suggest have a look at AVAST website.
www.avast.com and download the free home version of antivus software.
you'll have a 60 day trial run before registering.. it is a full version and hopefully clean your infected machine.
after registering .. you are fully licence for one year.
just keep registering for the updated products each year.

Download the FREE version, uninstall your current version, when you install the FREE version, dont click on try the trial FULL version.
You dont want to try and hack or use a serial that is not yours on your security software.
There are plenty of good free antivirus.

You don't even need a trial! I have used both Avast! and AVG antivirus which both offer a completely free full version that works wonderfully. I will mention I noticed a little less bandwidth when using AVAST, specifically when playing online games, etc, but other than that it was wonderful. I am an AVG reseller so I know the product and I know it is very good. I hope this helps you out!
