Question about HP Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Ibm hard drive sounds like its overworking; especially when several programs are running but sometimes when only one is running. Some of my programs are starting up upon starting the computer and I cannot figure out how to stop this. I also have lots of pics and music stored on this computer; could that be why. Should I transfer them to a portable hard drive? I have a 250 GB on this HP computer and am currently using about 1/3 of this, model #a1010y, windows xp. thanks!

Computer is running very slow

Clear any and all unnecessary programs, files, documents, photo's and software from the computer.

You can place these items on several flash drives, or save yourself the hassle and buy an external hard drive.

As a general rule of thumb. Any programs or software you don't use everyday, should be on the external drive. Any photo's or old documents should also be on the external drive.

Internal fast clicking sound and VERY SLOW computer

Your hard disk might have physical bad sectors so replace it with the new one. RAM has nothing to do with this type of sound.

0 preload disk space

Boot up the laptop then click on My Computer then right click on the C Drive then click on Disk Cleanup. This will get rid of
unnecessary files, deleted files in the Recycle bin etc and free up diskspace. (tick all the boxes to remove the old files).
This process will take a long time (don't stop it) especially if you have not done this before.

DESPITE PROPER INSTALLATION OF SOUND CARD SOUND IS NOT COMING

When you download and run the sound file, it expands the file and copies it to your hard drive, take a note which folder it has created (usually C:\Driver\) Then open the audio folder and run the Setup program to install the audio driver.

Hard disk wear and tear

reinstalling a operating system is unlikely to wear your hard-drive out faster than noticeable, and virus's don't damage hard-drives unless they are causing the hard-drive to overwork thus wearing it out faster

I recommend bringing this laptop into Best Buy for repair. This has several hardware related issues from what you've described. If the repair quote is any more then $200 (which i anticipate it will be) I would consider investing in a new laptop and not throw good money after bad.

Thanks

Slow booting process, "twitchy" mouse movement

Do you have an anti-spyware program on your machine? There are many free programs out there. This might speed up your machine a bit.
