Set your Television to the corresponding input line. If you have the DVD recorder connected to your television input 1 line. Set your television to input 1 line. The recorder is just waiting for your command to set your time and area ...etc.

I have similar problem. I found that if I remove the outer casing (disconnect from mains supply first) and disconnect the DVD cable to the units circuit board then power up again it would clear the problem, but on reconnecting it then trying again the ‘Welcome’ message returned as before. I’m guessing it’s a problem with the DVD drive or its connection. The only other thing I have noticed is, if you do manage to clear the ‘Welcome’ message and leave the unit switched on with the standby button the unit works as normal.

I've had the same problem. I've actually unplugged the unit and it's been unplugged for probably about two weeks. When I reconnected the power this morning the problem persisted where the DVD Recorder was stuck on the Welcome Screen. As a last ditch effort I pressed and held the power button for 10 to 15 seconds until the word "Welcome" dissapeard of the screen and back on. This seems to have reset the unit. I know I should have tried this a long time ago. So much for reading the instruction manual! I'm just glad it's working again!

I have the Sony RDR-HXD860, its been a great machine but has just started powering up to the welcome screen on its own accord - usually overnight or while I am at work - and stays there. I have to unplug it briefly for it to sort itself out and I have to select the HDMI input again after I plug it back in. It goes on to complete a full start up and shut down sequence before it can be used normally. This has been happenning for a week and is annoying. I will try a longer period switched off/unplugged to see if I can drain the memory capacitor you speak of.
