Question about Craftsman Garden

Too much fuel, In this B&S 24hp ohv, Not sure why? seems to me like the fuel pump has something to do with it. If I pull plugs and turn over motor and clamp fuel line it will start and run. pull the clamp it will die. Installed a new fuel filter, does this need to be full or can it be half empty??

Remove - clean and reinstall the carb- check the float - or put a rebuild kit into it too.

Pull the spark plugs out and check their color - as this will tell you if the engine is flooding out or you have an ignition system failure. If they are black check to make sure the choke is opening up and staying open. If the ceramic is light and not brown then the ignition system is failing.

Got a 10hp generator motor it has spark and replace plug just to be sure pulls fine put gas directly in carb and still doesn't run took plug out and it doesn't seem to be wet do you think it is a stuck...

If you have access to a compression checker you could determine quite easily if a valve is stuck. With out a compression checker, you can take out the spark plug, make sure that the ignition switch is off, and put your finger in the spark plug hole and have someone slowly pull the rope. You should not be able to keep your finger against the hole if the compression is good. (not the best way to check, but it is a quick method). I had an 8.5 with the same problem, with it, it was the head gasket. Someone had worked on the unit before and stripped the thread on a head bolt and it was leaking. You might have to pull the head. If so, then you can study the gasket to see if there is evidence of a leak. If you pull the head, then use a new head gasket when you replace it.

There is a possibility that the flywheel 'keys' have sheared thus causing the ignitions to fire at the wrong time. Do the plugs get wet after pulling the engines through a few times? If not, try spraying starting fluid in the plug holes, reinstall the plugs and attempt starting. If you get a pop or two, you have fuel problems. Check the fuel lines, primer pumps, and fuel tank filters. Make sure the primer pumps pull fuel FROM the carburetors, not from the tanks. Remove the lines at the pumps that go to the tanks and try to pump fuel out of the open pump ports. When the mufflers were off, did you inspect the cylinders and piston skirts for deep scoring or heavy wear? Do they both seem to have good compression when pulling through? This should cover most of the common problems. Hope this helps!

24 hp briggs intek vtwin won't start

This same thing happens to me and I resolve it by taking the gas line off in front of the carb and blowing air through it.....then it will run fine. I realized I could do this when I took the air cleaner off and fed it gas manually and it ran fine....and I also had gas pumping through the fuel pump. I'm not sure of the problem....either the fuel pump is losing power or their is something blocking the carburator intermitantly

Engine starving for fuel, fuel filter very low, almost empty

your fuel pump is diaghram actuated by pulses from crankcase pressure, if you look there is a small tube that runs from pump to valve cover, pull fuel line off carb and have some one crank it over to see if it's pumping. could be pump or blockage between tank and pump, if fuel flow seems good to carb, i would pull bowl off and check for dirt and also make sure anti run on valve, the thinghy that holds the bowl on to carb is opening properly, it should open and close when you turn key from off to run, beyond that it could be you have some water in your gas.
