Just try to go to bios and reset it to the factory optimal defaults ..cause if it starts and shuts down so quick ...it is usually a problem with the CPU temperature protection ...so ..first open it and try to boot and see if the cpu cooler is starting ...if not ..this is the problem ...is it starts but still shuts down ..than it may have a temperature protection set in CMOS and it is set too low and it gets to that temp too soon and shuts down ..If you can not get to Bios cause it shuts down too quick ...than just remove the Bios battery foe a few sec ...This will do the job I described..and also get rid of the Bios password if it has one set..After that if you are lucky it will boot and ask you to go to Bios and set the time and date ..its a little tricky to do it from Bios but ..if you just press F10 it will save the changes like they are and after that set the date and time in windows...If it do not boots to windows..just reinstall the operation system ..Good Luck !..
and please do not vote me if you are not satisfied cause the vote affects my ratings ..and this is a pro bono question I answered to and I meant well anyway ..

Dell XPS400 No Start!!

If you fan isn't turning like it should, it is definitely a power supply issue. Go out and purchase a power supply with 250-300 watts...thats a good standard wattage!!

I have a Dell XPS M1530 and it will not power up. I push the power button and the blue light goes on for 3-5 seconds and then goes off. Power is entering laptop and battery is fully charged but nothing...

this is either a motherboard, AC or battery problem. Isolate it by removing all attached devices, then emove the battery and power on the computer with just the AC adapter. If that does not work, remove try to use another AC, and another battery. if using another AC and another battery does not work, run the diagnostics on the dell laptop. press and hold the FN key, then press the power button. see if that will give you any error and take note if any of the lock lights will come up and/or blink.

I have a Dell XPS M1530 and when I turn it on, I see the Dell logo come up and it says resuming windows and then the screen just goes blank. when I press the Home button, the media center comes up...

Try starting the computer in safe mode

Press F5 every few seconds when you startup the computer.

That should take you into windows. Once you're in, just restart the computer and you should be able to get back in.

Let me know what happens.

Dell XPS M1530 trouble shutting down

Try this, just to see if the shutdown actually works.

Open a command prompt and enter the following:

shutdown -s -t 05

-s is to shutdown, -t 05 is a 5 second countdown.  Let me know if it actually shuts down.

Dell XPS M140 laptop shuts off after powering on

Most laptops that I have worked on that power off that quickly turned out to be an overheating problem. Is the cooling fan running for the brief period that you can hear the hard drive before it powers off ? If the fan is running another potential resolution might be to remove the processor and apply new thermal paste.
