Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

We have recently bought a house with Vulcan ducted gas heating (no pilot light). When the system comes on it produces plenty of heat so I don't think there is anything wrong with the unit itself. Frequently, however, it reaches the set temperature, turns off, and then will not come back on even if we press the on/off button. The only way we can get it back on is to cut power to the house and then press the on button. That would suggest that there may be some kind of program set, but since we did not receive an instruction manual from the last owner, we don't know how to adjust it. It could, I suppose, also be that the controls are faulty. Any information or suggestions you could offer would be appreciated.

By the things you said here it seams that is nothing wrong with the device itself but it has something to do with the thermostat ...The thermostat is the part that it supposed to shut it down when the temperature gets to the set value....and also it supposed to power it back when the temperature gets below the value it is set ..So if the system fails to power even from the button ..it only means the the thermostat remains blocked in the shut down position and does not restore from that position but after total power shut down ...Replace the thermostat itself and the problem will be solved.....

No it cant really be fitted as the evap system uses much larger duct and also in some cases people use a different type of duct that when running a gas heater threw it it tends to melt with the heat. Your best option would be to get new ducting that way you can size it correctly so you dont have air alance issues down the track.

I recently had a ducted gas heating unit undergo a routine service. At the same time, the technician identified an external gas leak. The gas leak was subsequently fixed by another technician who noted...

The tech that fixed the gas leak had to shut the main gas supply off so if he didn't bled the line to the furnace you may still have air in the line....... Go ahead and shut the furnace off and retry to start it again it takes a couple of trys to bled the air out through the pilot.... And if that doesn't work I would call the first tech and have him recheck it......that is assuming that you have an electronic ignition type furnace.

If your meter shows gas is flowing but you are getting no heat you may have a potentially serious problem. Since you are a renter, call your landlord or leasing agent today and tell him the situation. He should send a qualified technician to check your system.

The control panel gets its power from the central heating unit's power point. Try turning the power off outside at the powerpoint next to the ducted heating unit and try turning it on again after a few seconds, see if it resets
