Question about GE (PSS26MSRSS) Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

My refrigerator makes a loud humming sound.

My refrigerator makes a loud ringing/humming sound. Sounds like it is coming from the freezer. Sound comes and goes, but at times is louder than usual. We have checked the icemaker, and it seems to be working fine. We have re-arranged food in the freezer, hoping that would help, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. The noise will last for a few minutes and then stop. Lately it has been quite loud. It is not the normal sounds that a refrigerator sometimes makes. This is enough to disturb trying to listen to a television show.

Freezer side is making an extremely loud humming sound. Ice maker is working fine. No ice buildup anywhere in the freezer that we can see. Loud humming goes on for a few minutes each hour.

Hey Joanne, I appreciate your inquiry!

Based off my understanding the freezer side of your Frigidaire refrigerator is making a loud humming noise. The humming sound could be coming from your compressor. If the sound is a new development it may be a possible issue with the fan pushing further against the wall. You may need to seek help from a professional technician for proper diagnosis and repair. This will help you from purchasing any unnecessary parts. Hope this information is helpful to you. -Matt

My Maytag MFD2560HES bottom fridge is making a loud humming noise.

Any time there is the sound of humming it is important to locate where the noise is coming from. Sometimes fans wear to a point that at one speed the sound as if humming. Sometimes compressors hum with more catastrophic results. Because your model is a bottom freezer it would be a good idea to open drawer to freezer and see if the sound is from fan in freezer or if pulled away from wall is the sound the fan or compressor area? I believe I will be able to locate a service manual but I will need you to help me pinpoint the location of the loud sound so we can get the sounds back to normal. Let me know if you are able to try that and what you find, Sea Breeze

Both the refrigerator and freezer are set to the recommended temperature, however, the refrig unit is making a loud humming sound. This sound stops when you open the door, but begins again when it is...

There is a fan that blows cold air into the refrigerator. It usually stops when the door is opened. Check to see if it might be frozen with ice if the humming sounds abnormally loud. Usually if it freezes up you cannot hear the fan running and the refrigerator will not get cold enough.

Sears Bottom Freezer Refrigerator - Loud humming noise

That sound is usually your icemaker calling for water. you can turn off your icemaker by lifting the little arm on the icemaker. As the icemaker calls for water the valve will be activated and will hum. This sound is usually not very loud. If your valve is making that much noise you may consider replacing the valve. The part number for you water inlet valve is #2315533 The retail price is $60.18 . I do have these on hand and available to ship out today if you need one. Please just let me know. You may also consider replacing your filter if your refrigerator has one. Thanks and I hope this will fixYa

GE SidexSide PSS26SGPASS Makes Humming Noise

GE refrigs have a variable speed evaporator fan motor that is controlled by a computer board on the back of the refrig. now the noise you are hearing is most likely the fan motor ramping up and down in speed (some of my customers say it sounds like a ghost). if its a continuous ramping up and down then the speed cotroller on the board is bad and must be replaced. if its just an occasional sound then thats normal and nothing to worry over.

Btw the reason the noise stops when the door opens is because the fan shuts off when you open the door.
