Question about Electric Jazzy 1115 Power Wheelchair

Open Question

I have a Fortress Scientific 655 FS power

Hi,

I have a Fortress Scientific 655 FS power wheelchair. The Original rear tire was bad and the hub was seized fast to the drive motor shaft. The tire and hub needed to be cut off to replace tire, but now a replacement hub is needed to get the chair operational. It needs a rear wheel split hub so I can put a 10x3" (260x85) (3.00x4) tire on it. Where can I obtain a replacement split hub for this chair. It takes a 2.75" overall hub length with 3/4" I.D. bore with 3/16" keyway. Any solutions will be appreciated.

Sincerely,

Tom

SOURCE: Fortress Scientific 655FS Hello, we have a

Your best bet for covering and replacing the Van style seat and back is at a local auto uphostelery shop. For rehab seating and custom work you can remove the seat and back and have them reworked or replaced at the ArtGroup in California (Sunrise Medical) or Freedom Designs in California. In its day this PWC was very rugged and well designed. However, there are only a few people in the country who can still repair and rework the electronics and rebuild the motors.

SOURCE: No head rest My wheel chair

Sorry to say but Fortress Scientific quit making power bases many years ago, parts are obsolete. If you can find a wheelchair dealer that stocks Ottobock seating components, their hardware is very similar and may fit.

How to remove drive wheel

The drive wheel has a locking tab washer under the bolt which holds the wheel assembly on the end of the drive shaft. Step one is to bend the tab (or tabs) away from the side of the bolt. Put a socket on the bolt to remove it. Make note of the washer and lock tab orientation because there is another tab on the inside which locks into the motor shaft keyway. Spray lube into the shaft and keyway to free up the wheel and remove. A wheel puller is sometimes helpful here. When replacing the parts use Loctite on the bolt and tighten. The final step is to bend a lock tab up against the bolt head to keep it from backing out. The hard part of this whole process is removing the wheel assembly from the motor shaft. It may have seized on to the shaft. Place anti-seize or grease on the shaft after cleaning and before reassembly.

Changed hoveround tire and now it goes in circles wont drive

When changing a wheel one must remember to reinstall the shaft key, or the wheel will not be secured to the shaft. The shaft of the motor is turning but wheel is not.

When I turn on the vehicle the battery light indicates a full charge but the beeping sound will not stop and the vehicle will not go! It is a Fortress 1700.

The beeping indicates a failure of the motor. This is caused by either the brakes are seized or the controller for the motor has failed.
In the first case just remove the rear cover and , using a big flat screwdriver, just push the brake pads away from the disk. In the second case there is nothing you can do, you will have to contact the manufacturer - Handicare - or the dealer from which you have purchased it and find out which is the closest location that can service your scooter.

I need to replace the tires and casters on my probasics wheelchair. I am not sure what I should order and whether the tires come on the wheels ot what.

As a general rule, it is best to replace the caster as a complete assembly consisting of tire and wheel hub. Usually this is the only way to replace casters when the tire is molded on to the wheel hub. It is the best way to replace the caster since you get a tire, wheel hub and 2 new bearings.
With regard to the drive wheels on a manual wheelchair you can get just a new tire. With a plastic mag wheel and hand-rim you can sometimes get just a replacement snap-on tire to replace the existing.(Snaps on like a rubber band using tire irons). If the hand-rim, wheel, spokes, and bearings are worn or broken, you are usually better off replacing the wheel assembly. With power chairs, it is more cost effective to only replace the drive tires and use the existing wheel rims. Hope this helps.

I have the exact same problem. This is a Fortress Scientific 2001LX C series. Not sure what exactly the free wheel lever is, but I'll assume that it's the lever that touches the tire? You can't budge this...

MaryJain The scooters freewheel lever should be at the right rear of the scooter under the shroud and no it shouldn'd be touching the tire. To put it freewheel you should push the lever down. Now if the lever is rubbing the tire you can try to get someone to push it sideways toward the left tire to get it away from the right tire. It should move easily into and out of gear. Be careful not to break it or the small micro switch on the brake. Hope this helps you

The drlive line goes into what part

The Drive Line is a general term that describes a variety of parts ...

Power starts with the engine ... power is transferred from the engine fly wheel through a clutch to the transmission ... through a series of gears to the 'tail shaft', the output of the transmission. The drive shaft inserts into the splines of the tail shaft. The shaft connects to the rear end where the power is divided between the rear tires through through a diferential. The axels connect to the diferential and deliver power to the hub towhich the tire is attached..

that is unless your car happens to be a front wheel drive ... which I dont think yours is.

Hi Guys I have a Fortress Scientific 655FS and

Flight Systems Inc is a company in PA that rebuilds/repairs most controllers for powerchairs. You can call them with your specs to see if they can help, and, they are cheap compared to a new controller! Here's their address and they have an 800 number too.
