When I go into the IP address 192.168.1.1 (given in the manual) it does not recognise the default username and password given in the manual ("Admin").

1. Make sure to use the exact upper/lower case as stated in the manual. The password is usually case sensitive but the username may be either, depending on the vendor's implementation. In doubt, make sure they are identical as in the manual.
2. You may have received a router with a pre-existing configuration. Look for the "Factory reset" feature in your manual. Once the reset is done, you should be able to connect using the default username and password.
1. Disconnect the power cord from your router
2. Open a command prompt on your PC (Start->Run, type "CMD")
3. Type PING 192.168.1.1
Do you get "Reply from..." or "Time out..."?
If you get "Reply from..." it means that your have another device on your network that is already using the IP address 192.168.1.1. So, it also means than you were hitting this other device instead of the router you are talking about here.
