Question about Sta Rite 1 Hp Sta - Rite Abg Swimming Pool Pump
I have a self cleaning pool and it seems the jet power is much lower than before. Because of this the pool is more dirty. Also my filters on the bottom do not seem to be working either. I have been cleaning my filter at least 2 times per month. Any suggestions on what I can do to make my pool clean more efficiently like before? Thanks for your help.

The brown-green gunk sounds like algae. You stated that you have cleaned the filter. Have you taken the cartridge completely out? If not, I would suggest that you do so. Scrub the inside of the filter tank with a 4:1 bleach water mixture, only 1 part bleach. Then soak the cartridge in an acid bath, like Muriatic Acid. This will kill any algae that is in the filter itself.
You may need to vaccuum your pool to waste, get rid of some of the water and refill it. This may help get the chemicals in order.
Another idea would be to run the system continuously for a couple of days. Vaccuum to waste, not to return lines, and clean the filter when it reaches 8 to 10 PSI above start-up. You may not be running the pump long enough to properly filter water. Keep trying to get chemicals in order.

It is a cartridge issue in my opinion. I dont recommend cartridges ... Sand is so much superior as a filter medial. If this is an option for you ... I recommend it. If not an option, you might be able to get a different type cartridge that will filter at a lower rate and not get as dirty as fast ...

SOURCE: Pool pump has been working
Check the pump impeller by shuting off pump taking out strainer and putting your fingers in to get any debris out.
After you put strainer back in put a bucket of water in collection basket to prime pump.
Also check your o ring on the strainer lid.If its cracked or worn the pump will not prime, but continue to **** air.
Also be sure your in filter mode before starting the pump up.You may need to lossen strainer lid a little to bleed ot air until water starts to flow again.
Possible bad o ring on stainer or impeller on pump is bad.
You may want to try putting the filter in backwash or drain mode and blow out any air also.
