Is this on the camera or an a computer? If a comptuer, what program are you using to view the photos?

  • hhilbert3 Jul 14, 2010

    On the camera.

  • kakima Jul 14, 2010

Were the pictures taken by this same camera? Many cameras will not show photos taken by different cameras, nor show photos that have been edited on a computer (and opening a JPEG file and saving it counts as "editing").

How long has it been since the card was formatted? If you've been shooting and erasing photos on the card without formatting, that is almost guaranteed to lead to problems.

Can you put the card into a card reader and try to look at the photos on a computer?

  • hhilbert3 Jul 15, 2010

I can read all of the photos on a computer. The problem is only on the camera. I didnt know you had to format a card. Can you tell me what that is. I have been shoot and erasing from the same card.

In effect a memory card is simply another hard disk (albeit without any moving parts). By erasing photos (or files) individually and putting new ones on, the new ones could get scattered into multiple locations on the card, instead of being in one contiguous stretch. The process is called "fragmentation." Not only can this lead to the card acting slower, it can cause other problems. Formatting clears the slate completely so that files can be laid down in contiguous sectors. Make sure you do this on the camera, not the computer.

If the photos are fine on the computer AND you really want them on the camera as well, do this. After making sure the desired photos are on the computer, format the card in the camera. Put the card back in a card reader and copy the desired photos from the computer to the card. Make sure you put them into the appropriate folder. This will only work  if you haven't done ANY editing of the photos (opening it and saving it as is counts as editing).

All the website say about your photo frame as far as JPEG is listed bellow. It is possible that your current pics are too big or are in an incompatible format.

My digital frame con't read some pictures

Often a digital frame can only look within a certain number of folders... make sure your photos aren't within a folder that is within a folder... etc. If all your photos are in the same first folder and some can't be viewed, make sure they aren't "raw" format, or some other incompatible format. If so, you may need to convert them to jpeg or some other compatible format with your computer and then move them back over to the frame. After this, my only suspicion would be that some of your photos are corrupted somehow... take them to a computer and ensure they still can be viewed there. Good luck!

That means the photo's are still on the card however their formatting has changed which caused them to not be viewable on the camera. You're still able to get them off the card and onto the computer, and view them on the computer, you're just not able to see them on the camera.

Trying to upload photos from my Canon Power shot SD780 is to my Mac but when I plug in the cable the camera says "incompatible jpeg". And no icon to upload the photos shows up on my Mac.

if using iPhoto, check for software updates. When the newer cameras come out, sometimes it results in incompatibility with the software and they're always working to update this.
Also check your card in your camera. Some of the newer high speed cards struggle with uploads. You can purchase aftermarket high speed card readers and this will allow firewire rapid uploads direct to iPhoto and Aperture.

Can't view photos on camera

The image when recorded in the camera is known as JPEG[EXIF}
The EXIF bit is all the essential data the camera recorded about the camera [make model] exposure detail and much else.
When the computer gets the images - it does not know about or need EXIF so it ignores it.
Thus the images becomes a plain JPEG.
Cameras cannot read plain JPEG.
There are ways and means of 'restoring'[fudging to fool the camera]
but in reality is it worth it?
However if you want to try down load and learn to use Irfanview[Its free - simply type 'Irfanview' in your browser.

Camera Displaying Incompatible JPEG File

Sounds like the card has become corrupted. Did you format it in your camera when you first got it? If not, what you're experiencing eventually happens. Take no more pics until you've recovered any photos that you may be missing, take the card out of the camera. Here's some freeware photo recovery software that should be what you're looking for:

http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/recovering-those-accidentally-lost.html

You will need to use a flash card reader with this software. If you don't have one, get one, they're cheap:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_st?keywords=card+reader&rs=172282&page=1&rh=n%3A172282%2Ck%3Acard+reader&sort=price

Finally AFTER you've recovered your photos, recommend formatting your card in your camera. Look in the "tools" menu for the selection that shows your card's memory capacity, and select it. Then follow the prompts to format the card. Select "Low Level" format if asked. Note that THIS WILL ERASE YOUR CARD, so again make sure that you have first backed up your photos on your computer.

you are most probably looking at the pictures from the camera screen.... if you use a CF card reader and view them on the PC through internet explorer or any other software they will be fine..

You get this error when the files have been changed on the CF card by anything aside from the camera
