Yes its toxic if ingested by animals. It's the same as automotive engine coolant. Its the coolant for the CRT's it can also cause severe damage to the circuit boards solder if its allowed to set onto the circuit boards.

How to change steering fluid

Use a small hose and siphon it out, then replace with new fluid. I do not suggest siphoning with your mouth, its toxic and tastes really bad, most auto parts stores carry an inexpensive device to siphon out liquids.

What is the fluid leaking out of my television?

ITS GLYCOL AND TOXIC TO THE TOUCH---DEEP SIX THE SET AND GET IT OUT OF YOUR HOUSE-YOU WILL ABSORB IT BY TOUCH AND IT IS CONCENTRATED ENOUGH TO KILL SMALL CHILDREN OR PETS

Your mistake was opening the sealed area not meant to be opened, others have made the same mistake.

This is the reason (the glycol) why major landfills all over do not allow these sets to be dumped in the dump.

you went from bad to fatal and toxic waste cleanup.

Philips Magnavox 9P6040C104 Image Issues

If glycol issue screen will not be black and white but yellow etc.
(I can tell you simple way to know if glycol is bad)
This is toxic stuff so not likely a do it yourself repair.

If convergence issue-it will look 3d etc--
Kits are sold by model number on the internet for this--need to be able to get at the parts and be able to do good soldering etc.

Where to buy projector light fluid for a phillips tv

The liquid is called Glycol---very toxic stuff!

Suburban Electronics (has internet catalog and 800 number) sells it in plastic bottles.

If you have never done this take precautions not to get it on you--gets on your skin and is absorbed into your body--this is the reason most landfills will not allow these sets to just be dumped.

Is fluid/coolant inside intelifocus lenses toxic?

If the set is rear projection with 3 large black lens inside---there is a sealed (if it is not leaking) area just below the lens-----the liquid in these sets (not in regular or plasma or lcd sets) is Glycol---like anitfreeze but ten times more toxic and concentrated.

Like antifreeze it is not allowed to be disposed of in a landfill and if found in a set do not touch as it will be absorbed into you skin.

VERY TOXIC STUFF.

All used fluids from cars need to be turned into recycling centers or your local service station. Differential fluid is toxic.

My vs-50609 tv screen will lose color then shut off then when it comes back on my convergence is way off

could be a fluid leak, many of these old mits will leak fluid out onto the boards and have crazy issues. look inside for the toxic fluid on your circuit board with a bright light.

here is my convergence tutorial if this helps, but look for fluid as i bet you have some.. if its a small amount, you can clean it up with alcohol and maybe fix, if its a lot, it might be a goner

There is no picture, but sound comes through fine. after opening up the back I discovered only the blue lamp is working. This happened before about a month ago and there was a small amount of clear fluid...

Yikes!!! That fluid is glycol, a clear fluid used as a coolant for the CRT tube (lamp). If you have a leak, there's not telling how much damage could have resulted. For sure, you need to find which tube is leaking and get it out of there. Glycol is very toxic, if you have ever heard or read the warnings about automotive antifreeze solutions of years ago, this is the same stuff, just in a pure form. Keep pets away from the area while you work this problem out.

Hit wrong TV remote button, knocked out HD programming

You have multiple issues. The shadows are likely convergence IC solder connections breaking or the ICs actually failing. If you can bump the tv to get it to re-align, it just needs resoldering. If it doesn't snap back, it needs new ICs. The channel issue is less common and could be a number of things. You may want need to just autoprogram again to, but may have a fluid leak issue. You can unplug the tv and remove the back panel to inspect for fluid on the signal board (board with tuners, where cable plugs in).. DON'T touch the fluid, highly toxic stuff. Take a bright light and see if any drops have made it down to the board. If so, the severity of the leak will determine the repairablity. Try using a VCR or cable box to bypass this problem if no fluid leaked, that is the best (cheapest) way around it.
