Time to take it apart and re-align the d-pad connections inside.

Directional buttons work fine, until I start playing a game

Ok. navigate to system settings and scroll down to RESTORE SYSTEM SETTINGS, after that turn off your psp and wait for about 3 minutes and turn it back on.
Write back if this doesn't help.

The analog works fine in the options menu but when

Try calibrating your PSPs analog stick, here's how: 1. Go to Settings>System Settings 2. With the System Information screen displayed, rotate your analog stick in a circular motion (clockwise and counter clockwise). This will adjust the analog stick's range of motion. 3. Exit the Settings then run your game and test the analog stick. (it should be working well by now)
I hope this helps.

My analog stick is stuck in the upwards direction. Every time I play a game, the character in the game always moves up and in the game menus, the highlighted option always keeps moving up. I really don't...

Sony is full of it. Yes you can repair it. All you need is a brand new nub (joystick). You can find it on the net for about $5 less shipping depending on your model it is not hard to replace. On a phat (old school psp there are seven screws holding the faceplate. Once the faceplate is off there are two screws holding the nub in place. The slim is almost the same there is seven screws holding the faceplate but the only difference is the last two screws you have to take off is on the top. And once the faceplate is off it's the same two screws holding the nub in place. Replace and screw back in.

Directional buttons for PSP not working.

Star wars: force unleashed was a bad game... anyways:
Maybe the disk isnt read rite by your psp. maybe the disk is wrong?
Or it could just be that you dont use the directional buttons for gameplay, just the analog stick. XD

Psp menu problem

Ok, your psp CPU clock speed is set to low speed.. 2 way to change:

1. If your psp has VSH menu enable.. : press "select" button, a small window will appear, otherwise its set to "disable".. See at "CPU CLOCK XMB" must set as "default". use left-right d-pad to change it. if vsh menu is disable you can try 2nd way.

2. Boot PSP under Recovery menu ( Hold R-trigger when turn on your psp ).. under M33 menu select "CPU Speed" then press "X", select "Speed in XMB" and "Speed in UMD" to setting as "Default" by pressing "X" button a few times.

Hopefully this help.! Pls post back should you need additional information, and also Show your Appreciation, to help other USER.

Psp trouble

Hello, can you please explain in more detail about what is happening? Maybe if you were playing a lot of PSP, your keys might be jammed up in the circuit boards and when you play a game, some things are kind of pushing it to move the character.
Second question, in the main menu, is anything moving by itself?

PSP unresponsive

Hi Flying back,

I think your PSP may have had a confrontation with moisture. It sounds like the D-pad has one of the circuit pads shorte together full time. If one of the direction pads is always on, it will ignore the rest or add to them for a diagonal move. You need to open up your PSP and Look closely at the circuit pads for a form of short circuit across from one side to the other. you can scratch the short away if you find one. This should help. Good luck.

Directional Button and L Button Problem and another problem.

I think there might be a problem with your configuration, remove all plugin then try to restore to default setting on setting menu. and/or if your psp installed Custom firmware, the umd speed are set to fast. do this via recovery menu (hold R trigger while turn on psp). you may need to fix L button if it is stuck. you may consoder sending it back to Sony for repair. You can call SONY support at 1-800-345-7669. hope this helps.
