How many lights should be on my westell model327w?

b2f0922.jpg
The Westell has several lights on the front that have various meanings

Power = When lit, this light indicates there's power to the router. It should be solid green.

Ethernet = When lit, this light indicates that the modem is communicating with your computer. This will be on only if you're using the Ethernet cable to connect the modem to your computer

Wireless = When lit, this light indicates that the wireless function of the Actiontec is working. This will only be lit if you're using the wireless function.

DSL = When lit, this light indicates the modem is speaking to the central office (phone company). When working, the light should be solid green.

Internet = When blinking, this light indicates that you're receiving information i.e., you're able to browse from site to site. This light will be blinking as you're receiving information.

I am able to use this router in wireless mode but cannot get it to work when hard wired to the router. What setting do I need to check?

When you connect the computer to the router with the cable, make sure that it is connected properly and there is no loose connection. Also if you are connecting the computer to the port number 2 on the router then make sure the port light will lit up.
Proper light should lit up.
Check the IP address on the computer.
Check if there is no static IP address on the computer. If there is a static Ip address then set to obtain IP address automatically.

Can you tell me if all of the four numbers should be lit up to reflect the Netgear WGR614 is working? My internet connection suddenly quit and I just noticed that on the number "1" is lit.

On a router, the numbers light up only if there is an active computer plugged in to that port. One computer plugged into port 1 the number 1 wil light, and same with 2, 3, 4. No device plugged in to port = no light. Different color lights with different data rates.

Can no longer pick up router signal

Does the wireless light still lit on the router? You can try changing the channel on the router (1 6 or 11) ans moving the antenna. If those things did not work upgrade the firmware of the router and reset to factory default. Do not forget to save the configuration file before you reset to factory default.

Router installed yesterday, but not working today. Wireless light indicator is not on

If the wireless light is not lit up on the router , better reset the router, This is the way how you reset it Press and hold the reset button of the router for 25 seconds and then after that power off the router and check the wireless light if its ON then if its ON just reconfigure the router by running the setup CD, but iof the wireless is still OFF have the router replace since its still new....

Router stopped working altogether

You can try doing a master reset. (must refer to owners manual on how to) or replace the entire unit. Most likely the unit has failed.

Can not connect wirelessly with router

The list of wireless routers that are available in Windows is very limited and the signal strength of any router that is detected is weak. This can occur when the Lite-On USB Wireless 802.11 b/g hardware and Windows are not able to fully synchronize the signal strength data. Figure 1: Example of detected wireless devices when the antenna cable wire is connected to secondary port c01153759.jpg Figure 2: Example of detected wireless devices in the same environment when the antenna cable wire is connected to primary port c01153760.jpg To correct this error , download and install Lite-On USB Wireless LAN Driver Update (sp35177) (in English) from the HP Web site. This update should only be applied if your PC has the Lit-On USB Wireless LAN adapter and is exhibiting the symptom. As a work-around, you can connect the wire that runs from the wireless antenna port to the primary port on the cord as follows: CAUTION: This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a non-carpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (like a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.
  1. Open the side panel.
  2. Find the wireless networking board by following the antenna wire connected to the wireless networking antenna port on the back of the computer. Figure 3: Wireless networking hardware c01153761.jpg 1 - Wireless network board 2 - Antenna wire 3 - Wireless networking antenna port
  3. Very carefully, disconnect the small wire from the board by gently pulling the end of the wire away from the board.
  4. Connect the wire to the other available port on the board. Figure 4: Available port c01153762.jpg
  5. Replace the side panel, connect the power cord, turn on the computer, and use the computer again to verify that wireless signal strengths have improved.

I unplugged the cable connected to my desktop and the wireless function stopped working

You must always have a 'host' adaptor whether you want a LAN or a WAN. Go to your configuration utility or control panel via your Run command to set or view your options. Steve Medley
