Hi,

If the gas is boiling, it indicates low level of gas in the system. You would be better off checking this with a M.A.S.S and then see what he says.

If you want to know that the compressor is not working, your air conditioner will not blow cold air.

If thermostat is working properly, It will keep the temperature within pre-set limits.

Thanks for contacting Fixya.

Usually when a coupler breaks the machine will shut down from low sump pressure. Did you reset the alarm from that?

This is a reach here---it sounds like it could be low on refrigerant---but hold it---have you moved this unit from one spot to another--if so it needs set for 24hr before energizing it--also has mice made a nest in the compressor-condenser area---they may chewed on some wires--on some unit there a heater on bottom of compressor to keep the refer in gas so not to slug the compressor with refer liquid since liquid does not compress maybe locking up compressor. Air conditioner takes longer to cool than it used to.

Could be low on gas.. Have it checked..
If it get too low it might shut down the compressor or even damage it..

My 1997 gmc safari is not blowing cold air. is it something that i can fix myself?

Yes if it is just low refrigerant. If your compressor is still cycling on and off and the air is a little colder when the a/c is on then it is probably just low. You can get the refrigerant at your local auto parts store. If your compressor is not running you many have more serious probelms. If you look around some places will do free or low cost ( about $25.00) inspections.

Carrier home heat

If the unit is manual control there are two knobs in the control the thermostat and the selector switch. If your selector switch is in fan position the fan will run and the compressor will be "off"(even if you "off" and "on" your thermostat), if your selector switch is in cool position and your thermostat is in "on" position the compressor and fan will both run. But if the thermostat is in "off" position and your selector knob is in cool position the fan will run but the compressor will be "off".
