Question about Refrigerators

2 Answers

Wheelshot, We have a Sub-Zero 532. A couple of days ago, we discovered that the refrigerator side was only reading 60 degrees. I deiced the condenser coil behind the back panel, checked the compressor and fan for the ref side and they are both running. I also tested the 'cold control' and it would turn on and off. However, the temperature will still only get down to around 50 degrees. Could it need a recharge? What kind of freon does this model need?

I appreciate the response, but would like to have WHEELSHOT respond also as he seems to have a good understanding about Sub-Zeros. Also, we do not have an owners manual. Can you get us one or tell us where online we can look at one? Thanks, Gerald

The Sub-Zero 532 model uses two different refrigerants (R12 or R-134a), in four different quantities, depending on the serial number of your unit.

Hello,

There is 100% assurance that the unit is low on freon since all the necessary diagnoses parts are already check and they function well as you said, in this case, you will need to add freon to the compressor on your refrigerator.

As for the kind of freon used, this can only be determine by the manual of the device because i can not give any specification as regards this, but would advice you check the user manual for the kind of freon to be used.

Take care.

Sub zero 532. freezer works fine --0 degrees. fridge wont get below 50 degrees. cleaned condenser fins- still no decrease in temp

check the fan that runs between the freezer and the fridge --check fan for ice blockage -debris-or damage / clean or clear blockage --if not running test wiring and connections as well as motor /repair or replace //also check fan damper is not frozen or blocked its flap that opens and closes for air to flow //----ur fridge side is cooled from the the freezer side the cold air is blown in from the freezer if fan or damper is not working correctly than fridge is usually warm and freezer is working properly

You have a defrost problem. You need to have the defrost thermostat and heater checked. Once you defrost it, it will take a week to frost up again.

This is only normal in an environment of high humidity. My question is the condenser fan blowing over the condensate pan and is the air hot enough to evaporate the water that is in the pan? Has covers been removed on the rear of the refrigerator that may cause a different flow of air. Are all covers in there correct place and not missing panels that could change the flow of air over the pan? Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Sub-Zero 532 (About 18 years old)

First do the simple things like cleaning the condensor coils and turning the defrost timer a few times, also check the evaporator motor or just listen to the fan by opening the freezer door. Also check the light switch, make sure it turns the light off every time you close the door.
