eagle338 was awesome. Very patient and helpful. Very much appreciated! I think he could claim another language because that manual was as good as hieroglyphics to me. Thanks!

  • Sicarie Jul 15, 2010

it's looking more and more like I'm gonna have to learn some soldering. I've been calling places and they all want to do their "own" diagnosis, and of course I can't be there when they do. Aren't they diagnosing from the service manual themself??? Aren't the error codes going to mean the same thing to them? I'd like to just try the fan replacement. If it doesn't work, then at least a lot of money wasn't wasted and then shop for a new TV. How hard is it when someone says "just replace the fan". Whether it fixes it or not isn't on them, they just did what I asked. Now to learn soldering. lol

  • Sicarie Jul 16, 2010

Someone referred me to a place locally here that I actually felt comfortable with talking to. After all this help I got here, I sounded like I knew what i was talking about. lol They were very good about listening and if it's the fan it should be about $100 total to replace. I can live with that. I'm glad he'll be coming as I don't want to leave the tv anywhere, also if I did it myself and it wasn't the fan and a component connected to it I'd be lost. He can also check the rest of it out. He also isn't a rip off and I can be there through the whole process.
Thank you again for ALL your help and patience. You rock. :)

Can I have the chassis number of the unit so that I can look up the service manual and tell you what it means?

where would i find the chassis number?

  • Sicarie Jul 14, 2010

I just unplugged the unit, and now tried to turn it on and it's just a steady yellow blink now.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Jul 14, 2010

You can find it on the small label at the back of the set usually in the lower left corner.

  • Sicarie Jul 14, 2010

Couldn't find anything that said chassis number, just model # PD-5010 and serial # 330001224. I read somewhere that the yellow flashing is power supply?
But when powered off it's 3 green, then 1 red

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Jul 15, 2010

Ok. I could not find a service manual in my collection but I found it here. Lets get it so that we will route map. As for the power supply thing, those are two different codes. Lets confirm the cause of the problem before proceeding with the repair.

I have a manual, but looking at it I think it's beyond me. I can narrow it down to the blinking that I'm seeing, but how to actually come to an answer loses me. I can fix computers, but the language in that manual is really beyond me. I think given how much the costs of TV's have come down, I'd be better off just buying a new one. I already called a local shop that estimates just the replacement of the power supply @$450. Couple hundred more can get a new tv. I'm open to suggestions but at this point starting to think buying new might be the answer. I'm secure in my ability to replace a part, but its all the adjustment mumbo jumbo in the manual that loses me. lol

    eagle338 Jul 15, 2010

Ok. I expected this. Let me help you. Get me the manual(upload it to a file sharing site like mediafire.com and get me the link) and I will have a look. A component level repair can save you a lot of money!

Ok. I got it. I will download and have a look.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Jul 15, 2010

Ok. There is an error detection system in your tv to locate the source of the problem(page 13). Unplug the tv and replug to reset the error code. Press and hold power on and imput keys for 6 seconds to read the code. If it blinks only in red then its a confirmed power supply failure. Try it and let me know.

  • Sicarie Jul 15, 2010

unplugged, then replugged in. Pressed Power and Input buttons simultaneously for 6 seconds. Green light came on (you could the fan come on for a sec) in a few seconds you could hear it shut down, light turns red and you can hear the power up sounds start again , couple seconds shuts down again. Then you get 3 green blinks, 1 red blink. Tried this twice same result.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Jul 15, 2010

Ok thats a fan error as the manual says then the 3 blinks and 1 red means temperature error. That explains a lot.It is possible that the fan's motor is damaged and is causing the line to overload. You need a replacement fan. However to replace it you are gonna have to de-solder the wires of the old one and solder those of the new one in. Fan should cost you not more than 10 bucks. I say again, you don't have to replace the entire board. Now the only thing left is to find a friend who can do it(soldering) for you.

  • Sicarie Jul 15, 2010

Hmmm, I think that is manageable. I'll have to see who I know. If this is it, I'll be thrilled! :)

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Jul 15, 2010

Its definitely worth a shot coz the service manual is usually right!

  • Sicarie Jul 15, 2010

one last question? lol Do you think "that" repair worthy of a repair shop? I can't imagine that being a huge cost job. Or if I find someone who can solder, any idea where to get the replacement fan? I think after that I'm done bugging you. :)

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Jul 15, 2010

The rip off fee he is quoting you is coz he adds a +100$ to the cost and a hefty labor charge. Not sure how much he is gonna charge for this. The part can be obtained from an online store like partstore.com or shopjimmy.com. You can also try googling but for that you are gonna need the part number. We can try finding it in the service manual if you can get me the location of the faulty fan. As for the repair shop you can search our repair directory to see if you can fix the fan error through a component level repair. If he can then its worth the repair shop I guess!

    eagle338 Jul 15, 2010

Thats very sad to hear. However I suggest you give it a shot and listen to what they say. The service manual clearly states what the possible source of the problem is so they can't rip you off. Just show it to them and talk like you know about it but dont know soldering. That should do the trick!

Mitsubishi hdtv 1080 what are the blinking green light codes

ost models have a self-diagnosis feature to help determine shutdown problems.

To enable this feature do the following....

1) Turn the tv on and then let it shutdown
2) Press the input and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds
3) After 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence.

This will commonly be one set of blinks followed by a short pause then another set of blinks.
This will repeat around five times.

1 - 2 = no error detected

2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current)

2 - 2 = Short protect (short detected - commonly caused by convergence failure - to repair this check out site for a convergence kit)

2 - 3 = Deflection protect

2 - 4 = Vertical protect

Note: A constant blink on certain models will typically be caused by a fault in the DM model. To repair this check out site a "blinking green light kit"

How to replace cicuit breaker mitsubishi ws 48511

It does not have a circuit breaker but if green light comes on for a few seconds and goes off:

Mitsubishi self check: MOST OF THESE SETS HAVE A SELF DIAGNOSTIC:

UNPLUG TV AND THEN PLUG BACK IN---TURN ON---GREEN POWER LIGHT COMES ON FOR A MOMENT AND GOES OFF.

PRESS AND HOLD "device"(input) and "menu" buttons on front of tv for at least 5 seconds and then release both together.

Watch for power light to blink in a sequence:

1 blink-then 2 blinks-------no error

2 blink-then 1 blink-------X-ray protection

2 blink-then 2 blink-------SHORT PROTECTION*******

2 blink-then 3 blink---------deflection circuit problem

2 blink-then 4 blink---------vertical circuit problem

******2, then 2 is most common---usually means one of the fuses that protect the Convergence IC or IC's is blown---set will detect no voltage to convergence IC and shut down.

SET WILL REPEAT BLINK ERROR CODE UP TO 5 TIMES AND THEN TO GET IT TO REPEAT MORE YOU HAVE TO UNPLUG SET AND TRY TO TURN ON AGAIN.

IF IT IS 2 AND THEN 2---USUALLY
CONVERGENCE CIRCUIT PROBLEM

let me know what you find--hope that you find 2 blinks, a pause and two blinks--this is the most common and easiest to fix.

65" mitsubishi rear projection tv won't turn

IF model number posted is correct and green power light comes on for a few seconds and then goes off:
On front of set press and hold both the Menu and Input (device) buttons at the same time for at least five seconds and release both buttons.

Power light will then blink a two digit error code like 2 blinks, 2 blinks, a pause and repeat it several times.

Let me know what error code is found and I will tell you what it means.
