Question about Siemens SpeedStream Modem (4100) (SS4100)

1 Answer

I can't get my Siemens SpeedStream 4100 to work with my new AT&T DSL service. I used to have DSL through a local company, Humboldt Internet, but they stopped offering DSL and sold off their DSL customers to a larger, not-so-local company, Sonic.net. Everything went smoothly through the transition and afterward (except for some billing issues). Then Sonic.net increased the price to $55.00 per month for a basic 1.5Mbps connection package, which is just bloody ridiculous, so we decided to switch to AT&T. AT&T said that the SpeedStream 4100 should work fine and we did not need to get a new modem, so we didn't. On Monday Morning, 2:40am, Sonic.net turned off our service. On Monday night, AT&T turned on our service through them, but we couldn't connect. AT&T tech support had us reset the modem with the reset button and try a couple of other things, but we could not get our computers to connect to the modem or access the configuration page for it. They had us trying to access the configuration page at 192.168.0.1. We borrowed a motorola 2210-02 modem to get our AT&T account registered and get internet access to do some research into how to get the SpeedStream modem to work. I have downloaded a user manual for the SpeedStream that says that I should be getting an IP Address and Default Gateway of 192.168.254.254 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. If I force those settings I still cannot access a configuration page at 192.168.254.254. If I use "Obtain An IP Address Automatically" then ipconfig reports my IP address and Default Gateway as 169.254.168.235, with a Subnet Mask of 255.255.0.0, but I still cannot access the configuration page at 192.168.254.254 or 169.254.168.235. I have also tried accessing the configuration page at 192.168.254.253 and 169.254.168.234 just in case the modem's IP Address was one less than the computer's IP Address (like is the case when I'm connected to my wireless router... when trying to get the SpeedStream 4100 to work I have NOT been connected to my wireless router by the way, but am directly connected to the modem), but that also did not work. Does anyone have any other suggestions, or could anyone at least explain why the automatic IP configuration is coming up with such uncommon settings? Please help. Thanks.

When you are connecting to it, are you using the lan connection straight into the device? When you do that is it showing as at least connected to the device on the computer? You did not post the operating system but can you check the router address by using the command prompt and using tracert commands to see what it is listed as? If you are using windows 10 have you use the powershell command to reset the winsock? Did you use the 30 30 30 reset method on the device?

TUrn on the computer with the speedstream 4100 connection, like you always would, then when on and fully booted, unplug ethernet from modem, plug in ethernet cord from xbox. Turn on X-box, then restore factory settings. Should work

Siemens Speedstreem 4100 Modem Not Working

Try restarting the modem by either turning off the power button, or plugging out the modem power.

If the internet still frequently disconnects, it is most likely your ISP's (internet service provider) problem. Call them up with this issue, and they should either re-activate your internet for you, or give you a replacement modem for free.

Hope this helps, please rate and leave a comment ^_^
