You need to buy a passlock/vats bypass module, a vats system is easy but it sounds like the passlock is the same. on a vat system ya find the wire from the vat to the key then OHM it out to find its resistance and then add a resistor inline with ignation wire to the key ... Is passlock the type with the resiostor or something actuley in tghe key//? Unlees you good just buy the module resd a little and boddA bing Bobs Ur Uncle..

My Buick Rendezvous now cranks but wont start no matter the temp of the engine or outside. Replaced the ECT sensor and it worked for a while but now refuses to start at all. Jumping it doesn't help.

The first thing I think is the 'coil' the second thing I think is the throttle position sensor (TPS). Some sensors will not throw a code as they are pre-ignition sensors (TPS). Press the gas pedal to the floor and start the vehicle - this will bypass the TPS. If the vehicle starts clean or replace the TPS. If not you may have to replace the coil pack or coil(s) but test them first (ohm with volt-meter - book should have specs).

I hope this helps

It starts but why won't it run?

This may be related to the antitheft system The system is known for turning off the starter and/or injectors when it fails. Is there a light on the dash that says SECURITY? This is a common problem worth looking into especially after a motor has been changed. The bypass they did may be failing.

I just installed a new key switch in my 2006 trailblazer it is a napa part now when I start it it will only run for a few seconds and die ?

That is because of the vehicle theft deterrent system ! Do you have a security light lit on the instrument cluster ?
The Passlock?"¢ System is provided in order to prevent vehicle theft if the ignition lock cylinder is forced to rotate or the ignition switch is operated while separated from the ignition lock cylinder case. If starting is attempted without authorization from the Passlock?"¢ System, the powertrain control module (PCM) will disable engine starting. Start disable may be in the form of fuel disable or starter disable, depending on engine application.
The components of the Passlock?"¢ System are as follows:
The ignition lock cylinder and key

The ignition lock cylinder case, including the Passlock?"¢ sensor

The ignition switch

The body control module (BCM)

The security indicator on the instrument cluster

The powertrain control module (PCM)

Ignition Lock Cylinder Case, Including the Passlock?"¢ Sensor
The ignition lock cylinder fits inside the ignition lock cylinder case and operates the ignition switch when turned by a key with the proper mechanical cut. When the ignition key is used to turn the ignition lock cylinder to crank, start, a magnet on the lock cylinder passes close to the Passlock?"¢ sensor within the ignition lock cylinder case. The magnet activates the security hall effect sensor in the Passlock?"¢ sensor which completes a circuit from the security sensor signal circuit through a resistor to the security sensor low reference circuit. The resistance value will vary from vehicle to vehicle.
If a magnet from outside of the ignition lock cylinder case is used to attempt to steal the vehicle, the tamper hall effect sensor will be activated. This completes a circuit from the security sensor signal circuit through a tamper resistor to the security sensor low reference circuit bypassing the security resistor. If the ignition switch is forced to rotate without the correct key, or if the ignition lock cylinder is removed by force, the Passlock?"¢ sensor will be damaged and will not operate.

How do I reset the security system on my 2002 grand am gt. I tried changing the factory radio and now my security system doesn't work

You can try this re-learn procedure, if that doesn't work you will need to bypass the security system. I hope you bought the wire harness adapter for that vehicle. They need it.

Perform the re-learning procedure

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
  3. Observe the SECURITY light, after approximately 10 minutes the light will turn OFF.
  4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 10 seconds.
  5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes
  6. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.
  7. Start the engine (the vehicle has now learned the Sensor Data Code and/or password).

I think this job is too tedious to do here, so I suggest you call an oldsmobile dealership and ask to speak with a mechanic. Customer service can direct you to where you need to go. Sorry,

I need to bypass my passlock sensor in a1999 express van

If you find the black wire and the yellow wire from the passlock sensor in the column you can solder in a 2.2 K ohm resistor and then attempt to start the car.It will stall don't turn the ignition off.Let the ignition on for ten minutes or until the theft light goes out.Turn the key off for ten seconds then attempt to start the car.If it now runs you have been successful. If it doesn't you either made a mistake or there are other problems besides the ignition lock cylinder.

Where do i find tdm on 2001 gmc jimmy?

The 200 Jimmy key is not a chipped key, but instead a transponder key. This key works with the security system by transmitting a signal that is read by the Lock Cylinder in the ignition. Without this signal the truck will refuse to crank over, or instead start for 5 seconds or less and then shut down. If your security light is on, the antitheft system is 100% the problem. You can either find which parts is failing and replace it correctly, (Key-Ignition/lock cylinder-or TDM) or bypass it.

Is ther a security problem when installing a auto start

Hi my name is Ben. The mechanic is telling you the truth. Chevrolet uses what they call the PassLok system. Even though there is no security chip in your key, there is still a security chip in the ignition switch which must be bypassed for the remote start to work. The actual bypass module is relatively cheap, but it does require extra labor to install. I hope this helps.

Security light flashes and car will not start

The SECURITY light indicates a break in communication between the key, the ignition/lock cylinder, and the TDM. (Theft Deterrent Module) This is actually a very common problem on GM vehicles and has been since like 1982 Buicks. The hard part is finding out which part is failing. A lot of these systems are not hooked to the central computer and there are no codes to read. Most general mechanics wont even touch them. You are just stuck with that ANNOYING security light. So you got 3 options. Take it to the dealer and pay whatever they decide to charge you. (remember these people are the ones who created this failed system and refused to recall them) Or you can start replacing things yourself and hope you find the failed part on the first or second try before you get to that 300 or 400 dollar mark. Lastly you can just bypass the entire system permanently. I can tell you this, ive been dealing in these Passlock and PASSkey systems for years and installed dozens of bypass modules. Remember that these security systems are averaged to fail at least twice in the life of the car, so the only REAL fix is to just eliminate it entirely. After you install a bypass module you will never encounter this problem again, and you can do this yourself in about an hour. Check out this link for info, pictures, and DO IT YOURSELF fixes.

Had ignition switch replaced and within 4 mtns,it went out again. The mechanic said the security system sensor was burning out the switch so he un-hooked the wire to the security system and bypassed it and...

The problem might be your Vats security system. This causes the car to either "not start" or "shut down" while running, or start for 5 seconds and then die. (depending on the system) If the security light flashes, i guarantee that this is what the problem is. 1st trick, (if not starting) turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. ( no less ) After 10 minutes, turn key back then forward and your car might start. I did this in my regal for more than a year.

Cheap fix: Bypass the chip in your key. Temporary, but effective.

Never worry again fix: Bypass the whole VATS/Passlock/passkey I or passkey II system entirely. Literally take it out, and throw it away. I just did this in my Regal. Took about an hour. Took longer to find the thing than it did to fix the problem. For a list of cars effected by this problem. See the NEWROCKIES link on the right side of their page.........
----- With this fix, you can take that whole Vats, passlock, passkey **** system out of your car all together. Good info on both sites
