Question about EdgeStar AP14000HS Portable Air Conditioner

Open Question

I'm sure you hear this a lot. My edgestar 14000 used to cool great but now it's just not blowing cold air. I have noticed a slight change in sound that the compressor is making and the exhuast hose used to be really hot to the touch and now not so much? I have cleaned the filters, drained any water in the resovoir and checked for any obstructions in the vent hoses. I even carefully vacuumed the coils. It's just not cold enough, is there anything that I can do?

SOURCE: the bottom plastic panel of my EdgeStar AP 14000

I just replaced this pan on my unit. I have to admit it was more of an issue than I predicted. You need to remove the screws from the back cover of the unit. Then you can swing the back cover up like a hinge until it is sitting upside down on top of the front cover. Be careful not to damage the wires connecting to the circuit board. You can then remove the circuit board. After the circuit board is removed, you can remove the screws and the front cover. (note, you will have to spread the front cover to get the tabs on the center mounting locations to pop over the frame. After the front cover is removed you will see several things mounted to the base. I removed all of the fastners including the large nuts holding the compressor down. Then with some help, from a second person I lifted the unit and pulled the base away. I had to remove the yellow ground wires from the compressor in order to remove main unit. you will notice now that there are a few pieces attached to the base. I removed each piece and reinstalled it on the new base. then I assembled the entire unit in reverse.

Amana Wall unit blows cold air before heating

the unit works by chilling air and the byproduct is heat in the compressor, this is used for heating in the winter and then reversed in summer to blow cold air. It has to blow cold and warm up before it can blow heat.

In AC mode the cooler fan doesn't turn on and after a little while the warm air starts to blow instead of cold air. Any ideas

Sounds like a bad or stuck reversing valve. Typically r.vs. are energized in cooling, verify 24 volts to valve, if yes , bad valve

There has to be a leak in the system. Look at the sight glass coming up from the condenser- is the refrigerant low (many bubble). If there is a leak there is a sniffer they use in the shop the detect where it is.

check you condenser fan motor make sure it turns on, if ok you must clean the fins on the outside unit, with a water hose , make sure you turn power off first before taking a water hose to unit

AC Fan doesn't blow cold air, frozen coil noticed outside, resetting power resolves temporarily

You need to call a reputable service technician.  The freezing up usually is associated with a low refrigerant charge or low air flow.  Check your return air filter and replace as needed.

Edgestar AP550Z won't heat, goes into some sort of alert mode

http://edgestar.com/ownersmanuals/AP550Z_wire-fix.pdf
This could apply to at least one of your units. Apparently these models have had some trouble with the compressor capacitor wires coming loose. If they're barely touching they could cause the compressor to run intermittently and possibly overheat. The compressor runs in heating and cooling mode.
