Change battery. Uninstall the mouse software from the device manager. reboot and see if that doesn't help. If you have a setting problem, try finding HP mouse in the control panel and see if you can change the jumpy situation.

Microsoft Wireless Notebook Laser Mouse 7000.

Hi

It is not the problem with the mouse
Since you have said
"I have to key in Ctrl-Alt-Delete to unfreeze it"

Which means an application in the os is taking a lot of memory and cpu consumption
thats why it seems not working

******************
To confirm it(Whether mouse is causing trouble)) try running any live operating system(Linux,ubuntu,suse,fedora..etc) or different os(LInux...etc)and check whether the problem still persists

if yes leave me a comment . i will help you out

hope this will help you

Jumpy mouse pointer, imprecise. How do I clean it?

Laser mice don't need cleaning.
Try un-installing the driver.
Go to your "Device Manager" (Right click on ‘My Computer', select 'Properties', click the 'Hardware' tab, click the 'Device Manager' button. Click the "Human Interface devices" (If you have one). If there is some kind of a "Warning" icon superimposed on the 'mouse' icon there is your problem!
If NOT go ahead and Uninstall the drivers anyhow, It CAN"T hurt!
Uninstall the DRIVERS for THAT DEVICE only.
Click on the faulty device and hit the remove button, follow the instructions given by the program.
Do the same with the "Mice and other pointing devices"
Shutdown, restart, the device will automatically reinstall by the "Found New Hardware" program.
