Question about Toshiba Computers & Internet
I have a Toshibal Satellite laptop L35 with vertical lines running through the monitor. I have taken the monitor frame apart to see if I can replace the monitor myself, but I have some doubts I can do the job. Do you have any suggestions?
Hi There Joe,
I'm a professional Laptop repair specialist. Before you go any farther, either using your own or one beloging to friend, connect your Toshiba to an external monitor and see whether the lines appear there also, or the screen displays properly. This will tell worlds about your problem.
1. If the lines appear on the external monitor as well, it means that your video card on the motherboard is about to fail and you would want to go to eBay and type into their search box "Motherboard Repair". There are good companies there which I have used and you can get the problem repaired for around $100.
2. If the lines do NOT appear on the external monitor you could have one of several problems.
a. loose lcd cable connection on the motherboard or behind the lcd
b. failing Screen Inverter just below the lcd behind the frame
c. the lcd itself
If you intend to try any sort of repair on a Toshiba yourself, make sure a tutorial is available for your model at this site before you begin:
Toshiba Laptops are generally a higher degree of dificulty than many others. Losing one wrong screw can cause the laptop to refuse to boot after reassembly because Toshibas use some screws to double as electrical grounds.
You'll have to be the judge of what you feel comfortable with, but I feel I've covered almost all possibilities except a spill on your laptop that you might not have known about.

Testimonial: "Thank you very much, what a great response. No lines appear when I attach it to a desktop. Somewhere along the line I discovered that if I 'twist' the monitor just a bit, in other words put outward pressure on the bottom left of the monitor and pull inward a bit on the upper right hand corner, the lines will change until I release the pressure. Thanks again for your very detailed and informative response."
