Question about Vacuums

1 Answer

I have a Hoover, Steam spin scrub, Model F5897-900. Only used it a couple times and the motor gave out. First started being noisy then a bad smell. It did seem noisier that what I would expect from the start but I didn't realize it was a problem with the shaft of the motor. I took it apart and found the motor shaft wasn't true and causing sparks. The motor looks like it can not be taken apart and repaired. This seems like a default from the beginning but it is past warranty. Also noticed that the hose for upholstry cleaning was installed improperly causing it to tear. If it had been placed in the right spot it would have given a proper length of hose to expand when opening the handle release. The machine otherwise worked well and I was happy with the cleaning job it performed. I was able to take the fan part of the motor off but did not see any way for further disassembly. It appears I will need a new motor including the mount as it appears as one unit. What to do???

You will have to replace the motor and the hose asm. thehooverstore.com may be able to help, or you should be able to find a repair shop that can order them for you.

Anytime someone says they smell something burning on any type of vacuum cleaner of carpet cleaner etc. All I can think of is the belt is rubbing on plastic which would cause the sense of something burning because you possibly are smelling the belt........

It sounds as if this machine has a defective motor. Usually a bad motor will fail quickly. You should have a 1 year warranty, so I suggest looking on Hoover's website for an authorized service center.

The steam vac stopped working while in use and

If the cleaner will not turn on at all, you could have one of several problems:
(1) Bad foot switch
(2) Bad power cord, or
(3) Motor failure.

The unit would need disassembled and tested with a continuity meter to determine the part that failed.

Help. The brushes on my Steam Vac Spin Scrub

If you don't have the user's manual for the machine, here it is:

Check your system for any obstructions that could possibly causing the problem. Also, remove the brushes and see if there's a problem between the brushes and the motor.

My machine is a little more than a year old. I have used it about 5 times. It started leaking the third time I used it. The fourth time I took it out, the brushes would not spin (I did clean them and rinse them after use each time).
Now the engine screams and won't **** anything up. Do you have any suggestions? My last Hoover Steam Vac was great and lasted for 3 years! Hi,
I have a Hoover Dual V SteamVac F7425-900 that the brushes won't spin. The lint screen is clean & the brushes switch is in the on position.
It dispenses & sucks up the cleaning solution & water; just no brush action. Help

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The only thing that I can recommend is that you may have a bad switch, some vacs may have a broken belt or the drive mechanism inside the Hoover Dual V SteamVac F7425-900 in or by the brush assm section and is need of repair. Please check the trouble shooting section of the owner’s manual if you’re needing help and to save money. If you don’t have one then contact the Hoover factory cust serv. So, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Sorry it is not belt driven. There is a turbine that drives the brush. You have to remove the top cover to get to it. But if the motor smells hot, then you may have a problem with it also.
