Question about Sony Televison & Video

1 Answer

I had the projection tube replaced a little over a month ago. The only color I'm getting is bluish, yellowish colors. My 10 year old Sanyo's have beautiful color and have never had to be repaired. I'm really disappointed. I have a 55" Sony HDTV/3LCD/Wega engine. It was brought about 3 years ago, but not used/set-up until about a little over a year and a half ago as my house was not ready as expected,(I was in Hurricane Katrina). Do I have to call another repair man or is there something I can do from home?

May be you can adjust the color voltage if the tube you are talking about is a CRT rear projection. Otherwise please let me know the make and model of the tv so that I can suggest an appropriate solution.

The tv is a Sony 55" HDTV/3LCD/WEGA engine/HDMI/SRS. KDF-55E2000. I haven't tried your solution as I just read it and will need someone(family), to come over and do it for me, if that is the solution. I'll also await your answer to the model #, before I move this tv to get to the back of it.

Ok.. Thats not good news! The problem you are talking about is related to the optical block of the set which is rather expensive. However I have a better news for you. IF it is indeed the optical block then SOny will fix it for you free of cost. I remember seeing a class action lawsuit against sony for selling units with faulty optical blocks and SONY responded by saying they will fix it free of cost(parts only). The first thing I would do if I were you would be to give a call to SONY and demand a replacement optical block. The warranty extension is approx 4 years from the date of manufacture

I have a sanyo DP44D44 LCD flat screen tv. It has audio and the back lighting seems to be working. On Youtube you say its most likey the t-con board what do u think?

If your HDMI ports are toast it's easy to replace the main board. The T-con board controls the picture, so it has to be replaced too. You can get parts here: TV Parts Universal TV Stands DLP Chips ShopJimmy

My samsung hl61a750a1fxza only has blue and green picture only, why?

Your red tube is dead. There are three primary color tubes that create all the colors. A new tube can cost $250 plus installation and then you will have an old, obsolete TV with one new tube. A new 46 inch TV is less than $400 these days.

50" hitachi 10 years old has blue and green colors

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc
