May be you can adjust the color voltage if the tube you are talking about is a CRT rear projection. Otherwise please let me know the make and model of the tv so that I can suggest an appropriate solution.
The tv is a Sony 55" HDTV/3LCD/WEGA engine/HDMI/SRS. KDF-55E2000. I haven't tried your solution as I just read it and will need someone(family), to come over and do it for me, if that is the solution. I'll also await your answer to the model #, before I move this tv to get to the back of it.
Ok.. Thats not good news! The problem you are talking about is related to the optical block of the set which is rather expensive. However I have a better news for you. IF it is indeed the optical block then SOny will fix it for you free of cost. I remember seeing a class action lawsuit against sony for selling units with faulty optical blocks and SONY responded by saying they will fix it free of cost(parts only). The first thing I would do if I were you would be to give a call to SONY and demand a replacement optical block. The warranty extension is approx 4 years from the date of manufacture
