Most cases its the lens motor stuck or burned out, I would suggest nothing less then having a camera shop look at this for you.
1. stuck motor from debris
2. burned out motor
Take the batteries out then on the front of the camera give the camer a little tap, put the batteries back in and see if this does it, if not take it to the camera shop.
