Question about Square D FSG2J24M4CP Water Pump Pressure Switch with LowPressure Cutoff

1 Answer

I replaced my pressure switch with a Square D FSG2j24M4CP. Last night when the iron genie went into it's regeneration cycle the pressure switch snapped off. Should I be using a different type of pressure switch.

The problem is that the pressure switch is not adjusted properly...
You need to turn the taller screw down so that the pressure switch kicks the pump on sooner...

Directions to adjust water well pressure switch

Loosen the nut on the top of the housing. It's a "captive nut", so it'll stay with the housing when you lift the housing off.

There'll be a large spring under that nut, with another nut on a threaded stud that runs through the center of the spring. Turn that nut clockwise to increase pressure, or counterclockwise to decrease pressure. If you turn it counterclockwise, you have to run some water to bleed the pressure out of the plumbing before you can tell any difference - it won't instantly drop the pressure in your plumbing. It only tells the pump when to run & when to turn off.

Why cant i get water in my house when my pressure switch gauge showws 80 lbs built up

It sounds like there's a shutoff valve beyond the pressure switch & tank, and that shutoff valve is closed. Or... there may be a sediment filter on the house side of the switch & tank, and the filter is badly plugged. Or... the gauge may be wrong. That happens, too.

Connect pressure switch

Low Water Pressure This video will give step-by step instructions on how to adjust a water pressure switch. Note the procedure for pre-charging the pressure tank. The cut-in and cut-out adjustments on the switch are made with the electric on, so be mindful of working around live wires and contacts on the swithc.

How do you replace a pump pressure switch and or tank?

i would check the bladder first the switch only turns it on and off the bladder helps with the volume of pressure there is a air fitting on the top if the bladder is bad push the valve with a screw driver tip water would spray out with a tire pressure gauge set the pressure a couple pounds highter than the turn on pressure thats free to try you can't bring back parts

My water stops have to go hit pressure switch to start water what is the problem i tried to clean points with sand paper and sprayed contact spray on them did not work

If the contacts were that bad chances are the springs are no good any more and the contact points are not making good contact. Best way to go is to replace the switch with a new one.
FYI if the old one is not a low pressure cut-off model spend the extra $2 and put one in.

How do you set the water well pressure switch so that it does not cycle from low pressure to high pressure? Can you not set it to where you have good pressure all the time when watering the yard?

There will usually be a difference in water pressure between the pump cycling on and off. The larger, spring loaded nut near the end of the case is the shut off adjustment. The small spring loaded nut next to it is for setting the differential between the stopping point and when the pump will restart. Getting these two points as close as possible will minimize the pressure differential while doing yard work but short cycling is not good for motors of any kind.

Does the square D pressure switch work in 110 for a water pump for the house?

most switches work both 110 or 220 volts, this pressure switch should have a diagran on the inside of the cover, if you are still not sure go back to the place that you bought it at, and ask, home depot, lowes, should know and tell you how to wire it so it will work.

I have a square D pressure switch on my home well water system. I also have a Iron filter on the system. The problem I have is that when Iron remover is in it's backwash cycle at night and someone uses the...

I find it interesting that you never had this problem. Did something change, specifically on the backwash of the iron filter? Is is possible that there is lower restriction to backwash causing the lower pump pressure? Could you throttle the backwash flow to allow pressure to be maintained and still get adequate backwashing?
It seems a lot of water must be flowing so that when you use some water the pressure drops to more than 10 psi below cut-in, that means typically 30 psi shutoff point.
Can you lower cut-in pressure, say 5 psi, lower?

Adjusting pressure

The smaller "differential" nut you turn down for higher cut-out pressure or up for lower cut-out pressure. The bigger "range" nut you turn down for higher cut-in pressure or up for lower cut-in pressure.

Regeneration is nightly as oppsoed to the prrprogrammed 14 days

"DAYS00" indicates it is set to run every day. You may have lost power and it reset to factory settings. If the Gold series softener you have is the Aqua Sensor model (this is a probe in the resin tank that senses a change in the water chemistry and sends a signal to regenerate) the probe can get coated with iron and will either send NO signal or a Constant signal which will make it regen every night.
Usually a Gold series softener is either set up as metered or aqua sensor. There is an option for an override (such as 14 days) or it can be set up as a time clock model. Unplug the softener for 2 minutes and plug back in, re-program the controls to "DAY14". Make sure what the system is suppose to be set up as, Meter, AS, Time Clock.
Here is a link to Culligan for the Gold manual.
