I just had this issue and called HP. Even though the printer was out of warranty, I was able to go through some troubleshooting steps over the phone. IF you open and close the top cover 5x, it will print out a self test page. That is the only self test page that prints. Afterwards the computer will detect the printer and it will print just fine.

Panasonic KX-P7110 printer won't print from the auto feed tray, shows error when printing is attempted.

Hello,
Please check the entire length of the paper feed path from input to output for a small piece of paper that is stuck causing a "Paper Jam".
You are lucky that you can still print manually as this usually shuts a printer down until the jam is found and removed!
Good Luck!

My brother HL2040 printer shows out of paper when it has paper.

try turning it off, diconnect from computer.. Leaving it disconnected, turn it on, when green light indicates it is ready, tap the green go button 5 times real quick.

this should print a self test, if that works as I suspect it may, it is because the document that the computer is trying to print is not the same paper size as set on printer or trying to print to wrong trat ie bypass, ensure paper type is set to plain too.

If a test page tried to print but then came up out of paper, check there is nothing stuck in paper path (rear door?) and if game, give rubber feed roller a clean

Chances are and I;ll lay me bet 10-1 that paper size of document is different than tray setting and placing a sheet of paper in bypass(slot at front) is what your machine is trying to say to you. see how ya go..cheers

I get a series of blinking orange lights and a green pause.

Hi Mike, the paper feed switch doesn't feed paper... it switches the paper source from the top feeder to the bottom tray. Do you have paper in both? How many times does the orange light flash in between the greens? That tells the error.

Green ready light on, but will not print

When you refilled the paper, did you load a different size paper? Try this: on your PC, left click on START, then left click on CONTROL PANEL. Next, left click on PRINTERS. Find your BROTHER on the printers page and view the status box. Does it show READY? Are there any DOCUMENTS pending? Left click (you may have to click twice)on the BROTHER icon. The PRINT QUEUE appear, showing any documents waiting to be printed, and their status. If anything is in the queue, cancel all documents so the queue is clear. Next, RIGHT CLICK on the BROTHER icon . On the drop down menu, left click on PRINTING PREFERENCES. Make sure the settings match the paper you have loaded in your machine. If something is not right (Paper size, orientation, etc) the machine will not print. Carefully check all the settings and correct as necessary. To test, first click OK to exit PRINTING PREFERENCES. On the same menu, left click on PROPERTIES. On the GENERAL tab, left click on TEST PAGE button to generate a test print.

Orange lights (3)

Three orange flashes between green indicates a paper jam on this model. Look closely in the paper feed area and the paper exit area for any torn scraps of paper. Also open the top and check in the platen area (where the print head moves back and forth). If you don't see anything, it's possible that a sensor has broken or gone bad.
