Question about Audio & Video Receivers

1 Answer

I have a Panasonic portable CD player model RX-DS102 (16 years old) that cannot play certain discs without skipping repeatedly throughout certain tracks. I have thoroughly cleaned the discs and they play without any problems in my car's audio system.

If the lens is dusty or damaged why is it that the problem occurs only with certain discs and not with others? If the problem persists after the lens is cleaned can the lens be repaired or will the entire unit have to be replaced?

Are you sure its not a disc spesific problem?

A repair tech can replace the lens in most cases.

I dont know about cost, maybe it might be cheaper to buy a new one? Not sure check your local stores.

Yamaha RX-V595 Receiver will play Dolby Digital 3/2.1 audio Blu-Ray disc with player set to bitstream but will not play DTS-HD 3/2.1 unless output is set to PCM. Is this an issue with the Yamaha Recei

The optical connection (SPDIF) doesn't have enough bandwidth to transfer DTS-HD audio. To use DTS-HD, you must connect the blue-ray player and receiver via HDMI cable.

Each DTS-HD audio track on blue-ray includes also "normal" DTS audio, which is probably used when you select PCM. Player decodes it and sends decoded (non-HD) audio via optical cable to receiver.

SHERWOOD CDC-2000C ?D6376 starts skipping it was sent to be repair played about 2 discs when I got it back and started skipping again

Unfortunately the laser pickup assembly needs to be replaced, overtime the laser becomes weaker until it can not track properly and will end up skipping or won't read the disc. It is far cheaper to replace the CD player than have the assembly replaced.

Yamaha RX-V2700 skipping when playing a DVD on Toshiba D-R400

Sounds like a poor grounding issue between the units OR maybe they're not as compatible as the Mfg's say.

Could be a bad HDMI cable also. Most are made in the land of Nanking
