Question about Dell Inspiron 1545 Notebook
If the laptop is new, it's still under warranty and you should simply call Dell and have them replace the keyboard. It's definitely not a software issue. Batches of parts which are mass produced are always going to have a few defective ones, and you have merely been unfortunate to get one of those; your keyboard.
Go online to Dell Support and find the Warranty link. When there, enter your Service Tag # (found on the bottom of your laptop on a slender label) and use their Chat service to get in a chat with a tech rep. They will advise you on your warranty type and what you need to do to have them replace the keyboard.
Although it's also possible to buy a replacement keyboard online at eBay and do it yourself from the online Service Manual for your machine (and really easy), you will void your warranty by doing so.
Best of luck.
