Question about HP DesignJet 5500PS InkJet Printer

1 Answer

HP Designjet 5500. Message says "Insert" ink cartridge. It's the black 81 ink cartridge. We bought a new one, and we still get this message. When we push it in a just little more, and hold it in, it says "Replace." We've taken it out and replaced it multiple times and nothing changes. It doesn't seem to read the black 81 ink cartridge.

Hi,

Usually to solve this message :-

Insert the correct part. If the part is installed correctly, make sure the Carriage Tube Connector is correctly connected to the Carriage.

Now,

If everything has been taken care of and still you see the same message, you need to re-seat the cartridge.Make sure it should be original. If the same message still appears, that refers to a fault in print head. Manually clean the print head.If it still appears after cleaning, replace it.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

This is the correct ink cartridge for the correct slot. It's an original HP 4930A black 81 ink cartridge. It's new. It's still blinking "INSERT" and I can't get to the menu to clean the printhead. The screen is stuck on Insert Print Cartridge with the bottom one blinking "INSERT". Is there a way to clean the printhead without using the Menu to get to the command/area "Clean Printheads". Thanks for your assistance.

    Thanks for your response!!

Usually this indicate the faulty print head. Most of the print heads used in HP have a short span of life as compared to others. I could tell you a generic procedure to clean print head :-

    1. Lift the printhead latch.
    2. Remove the printhead from the slot.
    3. Insert the printhead into its color-coded slot.
Press down firmly on the printhead to ensure proper contact.
    4. Pull the printhead latch all the way forward and
then press down to ensure that the latch is properly engaged. You might
have to apply some pressure to engage the latch.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

    Hope i helped you.

Today I inserted a new black ink cartridge. Had the same issue, a message keeps blinking "Insert". I found a way around it. If I hold in the ink cartridge a fraction of an inch, the machine realizes it is okay, then I can press the Enter button. And, we're good to go. But, as soon as I let go of the ink cartridge (stop holding it in), then the display says, "INSERT". Could the area holding the black ink cartridge be dirty or possibly need adjusting? Thank you.

    Thanks for your response!!

Connectors do get crazy from time to time. You could try to clean the connectors. As you have used a new ink cartridge and by holding of an inch it is working, are more suggestive of the faulty electronic sensor who senses the cartridge.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

    Hope i helped you.

False ink empty

Are you sure its exclamation mark?..
This warning message related to print head. (warn out). When you are replacing ink tube assembly use dummy print heads to do the priming (new ink tubes are empty & they have to fill with ink)..
Action: Remove all cartridges and print heads, switch on the printer follow the screen message.(Insert cartridges first next dummy print heads).once its recognizes cartridges then it switch over to print heads, insert dummy print heads. Once printer recognized the dummy print heads, printer will perform priming, during priming dummy print heads will filled with respective inks.(follow the display message)Remove dummy print heads & insert normal print heads. Wait till printer recognizes print heads, load the paper & wait till performs the calibration, once calibration is successfully done issue closed.
If calibration not successfully done, check align print out for which print head is not printed properly, replace it..
Pl ensure that minimum 50% ink levels required in cartridges before performing the priming. Best of luck..

Make sure you are inserting a genuine Lexmark cartridge. Try to insert a different known working cartridge, maybe your old black cartridge, to determine if your new cartridge is faulty. If inserting your old black cartridge gives you a message saying "very low ink" or something to that effect, then most probably there's something wrong with the new black cartridge. Have it replaced with a new one from the store where you bought it from. You may also contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for assistance.

The cartridge on the right is the black ink cartridge. The one on the left is the color.
Make sure you have pushed the cartridge in all of the way and that you have removed the tape cover from the cartridge before you insert it.
If you bought aftermarker or third party cartridges, you have a cartridge that is not filled properly. If you purchased it from a local retailer, return it and try another cartridge.
The Hp reads the levels from the gold connectors on the cartridge. If they are blocked, or damaged or the cartridge is not full, you will get this message.

I doubt it. When the printer powers up, it checks to make sure that all modules are in place and functional. If one is missing, you'll get an error message.

My Hp PSC 1350v

Hi, I really appericate all your efforts to fix the issue the issue usually occures if any one of the cartridge is defective or low in ink or both the cartridge are defective. We can isolate the issue only by removing the both the cartridges out of the printer and check for the expiry dates printed on the cartridges as if the cartridges are expired also leads to this message. If the cartridge are not expired and have minumial ink in it you can try the below procedure to isolate the defective cartridge Once the both the cartridges are out of the printer insert only the black cartridge in the printer and check for the message if the message is install color cartridge the black cartridge and printer is detecting fine. If the message is check right cartridge this shows that the black cartridge is defective. If the message is insert left cartridge or color cartridge remove the black cartridge out and insert only the color cartridge and check with the message if the message is insert the black cartridge the color cartridge is working fine. And when the color cartridge is in the printer and if the message prompts to check left or color cartridge the color cartridge seems to be defective so replace the defective one will fix the issue So in isolation we can find the defective cartridge and fix the issue by replacing the defective one.. Hope this will help you to fix the issue.. Wish you success. Regards, Barret.
