Sounds like you may have a bad board or stick of ram. Try openeing up the case (making sure you use a grounding strap and unpluging the computer first) and unpluging all the cards and drives and see if it will POST. If so add one card/drive at a time untill you find the one that will no longer allow you to boot.

Try a different monitor (borrow one). If that doesn't work, you need to take it to the shop.

I have a Gateway GT4022 that recently stopped working. When the power button is depressed, the fans will kick over for less than a second and then the system shuts down. It never gets to the BIOS and no...

Power supplies shut off automatically when one of the voltage wires is shorted to ground somewhere. This is why you see the fan kick over for a second and quit. This is probably a bad motherboard.

Gateway GT4022 Motherboard failed

Well, I think gateway is just a computer manufacturer, so if you are still under warranty, you could possibly get a replacement. But before doing anything, and if you are comfortable with doing so, open up the side of the casing, and take a look around, see if any cables seem unconnected.

Have you tested the power supply? Try switching out the power supply and see if that gets you up and running.

sounds a lot like a sound card memory issue. open the volume controls, and bring all settings down to bottom, then bring them up slowly, until you find the saturation point(that's what causes that obnoxious sound).
