Hello, I think I misunderstood your problem. It sounded like your pc was going into sleep mode too soon, From this post it appears your problem is just the opposite. If the pc is waking up from sleep after a few seconds. Right click on the my computer icon and choose properties, then hardware/device manager/network adapters/properties/power management, there should be a box labeled let this device bring the computer out of standby, if it is checked uncheck it. Let me know if that solves the problem.

Sleep button won't activate

I'll assume you're referring to the Sleep option accessed through the shutdown menu in Windows. My bet is you'll have to make a change to your power plan in the Power Options section of the Control Panel. You should see a few pre-configured power management options like "Power Saver" and "High Performance." To the left of these options should be a sidebar containing more specific and direct links to changing how your computer behaves and what options are available.

If you cannot resolve your problem through using the Power Options under the Windows Control Panel, I suggest you enter your BIOS setup (you'll have to restart your PC), and press the right arrow key until you're on the last page of BIOS setup. Once there, press the down arrow key until the option to load "default settings" is highlighted, and then press enter. Then highlight the option to exit saving changes and press enter, allow the computer to boot normally into the Windows desktop, and check the sleep option again. You may have to select the default BIOS settings before making changes in the Control Panel, but I would recommend trying the Control Panel first.

If the Power Management Settings are not available in the BIOS, attempt the following solutions.

A. Update your Chipset and Video Graphics Drivers to the latest versions.

B. Complete the following steps to activate the sleep function in Windows 7.

1. Open Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Power Options
2. Choose to change a power plan's settings
3. Click "Change advanced power settings"
4. After Expanding "Sleep" option, turn "Allow hybrid sleep" to "On" and set "Sleep after" to desired amount of time.

Go to Power Options and select 'Choose what the buttons do'. You might have changed the option for 'When I press the Sleep button'. Revert it back to sleep.
