Question about Hannspree HW191D LCD Monitor

1 Answer

I have a Hanns monitor connected to a laptop. A few days ago we had an unexpected power outage. When power came back it appears that the laptop no longer recognizes the Hanns as a separate monitor with different display characteristics from the laptop monitor.

Hi! Have you tried swapping monitor to connect on the laptop? Try if the monitor connected to the laptop will work fine. If the newly connected monitor works fine then the problem will be on the hannspree monitor. If it doesnt change on the newly connected monitor then I strongly suggest the you reinstall the laptop driver. This may have been corrupted during the power outage. Hope this helps and have a good one!

I do not have another monitor to try. The Hanns monitor shows a display, but the display has the same resolution as the laptop screen, whereas before the power failure the Hanns monitor was set up to have higher resolution. I went into Control Panel, then Display, then Settings. And when I click on the Identify button both monitors show a big #1, regardless of whether I select the #1 monitor or the #2 monitor before I click on Identify.

Alright, please do try to reinstall the laptop mainboard driver. The system may be corrupted due to the power outage. Reinstalling the mainboard driver may resolve this. Please let me know how it goes. Thanks and good luck!

Ok, does your laptop comes with a cd that includes the motherboard driver, sound and video driver? This will need to be reinstalled. Insert it in the cd tray and will play automatically and will give direction on how to proceed.

Ok, I believe that you have to update the laptop's firmware via web. Please type the brand and model of your laptop on the search box and add firmware update at the end. This will give you results on where to download the firmware.

Flashing green led on my hanns-g HX191D

Try it on another PC fIrst.
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

This failure is caused by a semiconductor (perhaps a IC or Power transistor), as the part is getting worse, the display will taken longer to work. Unfortunately, today displays are getting cheaper and repairs on this kind of issue is not recomended. You may need to consider to get a new one.

I-inc CY199 monitor will not turn on

Hello,

It sounds like you have a monitor with a common problem, we have repaired many Hanns-G monitors with this problem. After a few years some LCD monitors will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors overheating in the confined space of the monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix the problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictures and your monitor should work fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and - connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the same way. If you can't do the repair we offer a repair service, contact us for more details.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.
