Sampo 612N DVD Player

I just took my Sampo 612N out of the box..brand new..it will not play my region 2 discs..the instruction book said it would and said nothing about an unlock code or anything. My old Sampo you typed 38883 and hit setup & you got a listing of regions that you could select from & lock into place I typed 38883 on this and nothing happened...very upsetting...I understand the 612N is discontinued now but my player is new so I know it's not from age or use...maybe I have to be at a certain location within the set up or something to fix this....Any help would be greatly appreciated.
