Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a Packard Bell GN45 notebook with an intermittemt fault on the power socket. It does not always charge and I have tried several leads. Can you replace the socket, or would it be easier to replace the motherboard, which I assume it is soldered to ? Any help / guidance appreciated. Martin

Test the laptop using an external monitor
If this works fine, then the issue is with the screen, or possibly the vga cable. I notice this is referred to as a compatible screen, was this obtained new, or is it 2nd hand. Although most 15.4 screens fit most 15.4 laptops, some do not display correctly, this might be your problem. If you know the screen to be good I would suspect the connection at the back of the screen

If this still shows issues with an external monitor, you have a problem with your graphics chip on the motherboard

Hi, There is a possibility of problems in:
  1. the adapter that you are using might be defective
  2. or the port for the power is not working
  3. or the battery fault issue
What you can do is to try another outlet to see if the outlet itself is the cause. Cheers!!

Battery not charging

I recommend that everyone should have a cheap multimeter at home; they can be had for <$20 US and would be of help in sorting out your problem, whether the power pack or the battery is at fault. They are always accompanied with a Chinglish instruction brochure that will be enough to let you do basic things.

Power source

Most laptop batteries die - that is, fail to hold a charge, after a few years use, and have to be replaced. That is the probably the reason for your problem.
