Digital camera R717 - display screen

While on vacation, i turned my camera on from charging the battery over night, and the display screen was all grey and full of lines. if i try to check what flash setting it's on, or check to see any of the settings, i get the same screen. i cannot see any of my previously taken photos or what photo i am trying to take at the current moment. i've tried resetting it but that doesn't help. any suggestions would be appreciated as the camera is pretty much useless to me without the display screen.

I think the motherboards has gone bad may be due to overcharging the unit and the cause can be due to heat generated overnight and has damaged some component of the motherboard,
Try to get hold of a service technician and get it repaired or you can simply call hp and ask for help
    contact HP

Before that you can give a last try to these steps

HP Photosmart R707 and R717 Series Digital Cameras -
    Performing a Power Reset

    Resetting the
camera can correct many issues, such as the camera locking up or not
turning off. The reset drains the power and, in some cases, causes the
camera settings to revert to factory defaults.

    NOTE:

Resetting the camera returns all settings to the factory defaults. Any images or video clips stored in memory are
    retained.

Perform a power reset of the camera
Obtain a paper clip, locate the reset switch, and then follow the steps below to reset the camera:

    1. Turn off the camera.

    2. If there is an optional memory card in the camera, remove it.

    3. Remove the battery from the
      camera.

    4. Press and hold the straightened end of a paper clip in
the reset switch. Release the switch after three to six seconds.

      Figure 1: Camera reset switch

      NOTE:

The Reset switch is the small hole located by the
      battery slot.

    5. Reinsert the battery and close the Battery/Memory card
      door.

    6. After verifying that the camera works without an optional
memory card, reinsert the card, if desired.

      NOTE:

      If
the issue is not resolved, try using the camera without a memory card
or format the memory card. This will help to determine whether an image
on the card, the card itself, or the camera is causing the camera to
lock up or preventing it from turning off. See the camera User Guide
      for formatting instructions.

When I turn on my HP R717, it won't stay on!

You must replace the batteries. This is a very common problem with all digital cameras. They require a massive amount of power. They will shut off as soon as there is insufficient power to run them. Try rechargable lithium 2400 batteries, they last the longest in digital cameras.

HP R717 camera will not work . installed new battery will not charge

Connect the camera to the charger. If it works, while connected to the charger, the problem is either with the battery or the battery contacts. Make sure that battery contacts are clean.

HP R717

dear mkmkmk,
The easiest way to get rid of the date time stamp with a broken lcd screen is to do a mual reset of the camera, which can be done by
1. turn of camera
2. remove memory card
3. remove battery and make sure the ac power cord is not connected.
4. you need to press the reset switch which is located above the battery slot. To do this you need to get a paper clip and straighten it and push the straighted end into reset switch until the switch is depressed.
5. reinsert the battery.
6. after you verify that the camera works without the optional memory card reinsert the memory card.

the factory setting default does not have the date/time stamp activated.

Sincerely,
Agent Allan
