Question about HP 2159M Monitor

Open Question

How to you take apart an HP 2159M TFT Monitor? I have bugs behind the screen and only way to get at them is with an air can to hopefully jog them off. The screws come out, but for some reason can't get the case to open, without risking breaking it. The monitor is just out of warrent as well :(

I also have a white screen. I checked the capacitors on mine....well at least visually and I did not see anything wrong with them. No bulges. Any other good way to check them? So do you have any links to the areas you have been reading about on these? It seems to me on the larger board and I definitely have a resistor that actually burned the board. It has a black mark on it. Not sure if that has to do with a capacitor or not. Tell you what when you get your face plate off email me a picture of the main board at and let me check if I am missing a capacitor. I have a spot that looks like a capacitor should be there but it is not. We can also compare resistance reading at different points to see if we can tell where the problem is.

To answer your question I popped it off with 2 small flat head screwdrivers. I took the stand off first (5 screws I think and then popped the front face off and then removed 4 screws on the side. After that just pull the panel display out slowly and disconnect the ribbon cables. There you have it.

Keep prying. Plastic clips are strong. You won't break it, maybe a clip or 2. LCD is in a steel case inside. The outside plastic is only for looks.

Running a Mac with an Hp monitor

You are using a monitor created for use with a MAC, the only monopolistic systems manufacturer in the world. No one may make anything for MAC except MAC. That you are able to get something working is a testament to your tenacity.

Now, see whether you can use different cabling to connect the monitor to the MAC.

Use the DVI, or single round multi-pin connector between the two devices, PC and Monitor ... sorry, MAC and monitor.

With the digital signals more tightly aligned, you should be able to get the pair running in sync a lot more easily than with normal monitor to PC cables.

The MAC has been made to be a finer machine for the creative industry, so you must also be creative, and get the two working together using the right technology.

Hello: Just recently, the 2159m HP monitor goes to sleep in the middle of an activity. This happened on two desktops and different settings. Repalced the video card, adjusted settings, replsced DVI...

Check the cord and connections for the monitor; this has one wire that must have voltage on it or the monitor goes to sleep, and a broken wire or loose connection will fool it into thinking you are powering down. If this doesn't work try going into power options and setting monitor to never power down.

Is there any way to use headphones on the HP 2159m computer monitor? possibly external computer speakers? I have a desktop computer connected to the monitor by a HDMI cable.

There is no audio output on that monitor. So decoding the HDMI into analog is out. However, the simple fix is to plug your speakers or headphones into the green 3.5mm headphone jack on the back of your computer, and change the default audio device in windows. You can use both audio cards at once for different tasks, such as having someones voice come over your HDMI cable on the monitor, while listening to music on the audio out of your computer.

If you need any help setting the audio card, let me know.

Maybe you can help me out with a problem I am having with our monitor. It?s an HP 2159m LCD monitor?.we just bought it last year. A couple weeks ago, I turned our computer on (it?s a desktop)?.and the...

Please check the video connections to make sure they are secure.
Some devices have the connections hanging straight down, and gravity works all over the planet.
If you have another monitor available, plug it in and check the computer's video output with it. If you get a picture with the alternate monitor, then you know the original monitor was the culprit.
It really does sound like a loose connection, but would not be surprised, you past the one year mark... that is when warranties expire.
good luck and don't forget to vote!!!

Bug behind plastic screen cover and loose right side movement

Sadly the entire system needs to be taken apart. There is going to be at least 15 screws to remove and you need to move with surgical precision.

Thanks, Frank
