Maybe your laptop is configured to be the Internet server that is why every time you disconnect the Ethernet cable you lost connection. Your laptop is the one that gives connection to other computers.

Can I disable wireless and connect with ethernet cord and modem, for work do not want remove wireless cord, in the day want to be able to use my wireless.

Are you talking about direct-connecting via Ethernet to a cable or DSL modem? You shouldn't have to disable wireless to do that. If the cable modem has an open Ethernet port, you should be able to run a straight-thru Ethernet Cat-5 cable between that port and the Ethernet port on your laptop. The laptop should recognize that it is connected to the modem through the direct connection. Check the manual for the cable modem or information supplied by your ISP for connection details. You may have to do some setup on the modem to get an Internet connection, like having your ISP 'activate' the modem. Just be sure your Ethernet cable is a straight-thru, standard Ethernet cable, and not a 'cross-over' cable such as is used to transfer data between two computers.

My router is situated in my bedroom and can only get on to inter-net when have ethernet cable connected to my router and laptop, when i disconect ethernet cable and take laptop to another room it will not...

Thank you for using FixYa
In order to use the laptop in another room, your router must be a wireless router. If it is a wireless router you will need to Create a new wireless connection on your laptop in order to connect to it. Go into your control panel or system and use the Wizard to create a new connection. Since I do not know what operating system or hardware you are using this is not a specific answer but I am giving you the general procedure that you will have to follow.

I hope this was useful and please comment if this was helpful to you.

I set up my laptop using a Belkin wireless router, and it is o.k. thro ethernet by does not recognise wireless when I disconnect the ethernet cable!!

Well the best shot is to reset the router back to factory by pressing the reset button for 10 seconds then it will flash a couple of times. then see if your laptop can connect to the router, If that doesnt work let me know

Wireless network disconects when connecting xbox 360

Are you connected to the router wired, or wireless?

Have you set your laptop to a static IP on you network, and your X-box is set to the same?

Cant go wireless

I think the problem is not your laptop configuration. Can you check the setup configuration of the router it's maybe the wireless function is disable. Or try to reset the router to his default configuration. Press the reset bottom of the router for 15 second then try to connect your wireless connection if still not working setup again the router configuration.

thanks

Wireless router

OK classychick,

do you have a wireless card in you PC/ laptop? If you have you should set this to the same settings on your router.

eg. SSID = {whatever you want}
WEP encryption 64 bit = {10 chars from a-f and 0-9}
or WPA encryption = {a word}

Has the wireless on the PC/Laptop been turned on?

Cheers
Tim
