My Freecom Classic SL 250gb hard drive has suddenly stopped working - not sure if it is the fan/power supply. Any ideas?

Probable reason for failure of a disk is power, if the power is adequate may be some of its components like inductor, diodes in series with the power line are opened, check for any burn marks on the pcb

My 250gb hard drive is not working

Assuming this external hard drie is powered via USB, you probably just need the drivers:

Hard Drive not detected

If you are sure that the disk is okay, then I do suspect it is a power problem. Laptop USB ports often can not provide as much power as desktop USB ports. If possible try using an external power adapter with the disk and see if that works.
You can try some other external hard disk troubleshooting ideas, but probably it is the power.

have you partitioned and formatted the drive? you will need to do this before you can do anything with it, these drives are supplied unformatted as the manu does not know what kind of system it will be used on.
