SOURCE: pull rope broke

This usually happens at the most inopportune time. You go out mow the lawn, pull the rope and it comes out in your hand. Here's how to fix it yourself.
First, we'll talk about a simple rope replacement. In most cases you will have to remove the blower housing from the engine to get to the underside of the rewind starter where the rope is. We'll assume at this point that the spring is ok and you can just wind it back up again. You can check the spring by turning on the hub in a counter-clockwise direction and see if the spring gains tension. Do not try to remove the spring from its holder or you may end up having to take the mower in for service.
1. Remove the rope from around the hub. Since there is no tension, it should come right out. If you are lucky and it broke near one end, you can probably just re-use it. If it is badly frayed or too short, you will need to find a replacement at a local hardware store.
2. Attach the handle or tie a knot in one end of the rope so it will not wind all the way into the hub. You also may want to burn the rope ends to keep them from fraying and causing a problem in the future. Set the rope aside where you can grab it once you wind up the spring.
3. Wind the hub in a counter-clockwise direction using your thumb to keep it from unwinding, until the spring is tight. Then let it come back slightly so the rope hole in the starter housing lines up with the rope hole in the hub.
4. Stick the rope through both holes while holding the hub from unwinding. This is tricky because you don't want the hub to unwind on you before you have the rope secured in it. A pair of needle nose pliers or a small screwdriver or pick may help get the rope through.
5. Tie a half hitch knot in the rope after you have it through both holes. While holding the rope, release your hold on the hub and let the rope slowly pull itself back into the starter.
6. Put the blower housing back on and your ready to start the engine & mow.

SOURCE: I have a Homelite "Vac Attack" leaf blower model

The fuel line is replaceable by itself, you don't need a new tank. Just make sure you get the same size line or it will leak where it goes into the tank. Any local small engine repair shop should have the line. There are two lines that go into the tank, the pickup line has the filter on it. It not only filters the gas but keeps the end of the line down in the fuel.

Broken pull cord mac320v leaf blower

The pull string is in a housing underneath the fan. Remove the left (as you're holding the blower with the outlet facing away) housing. The blower fan is visible. Use a 1/2" light duty impact driver, it's a conventional clocking leftie loosie rightie tightie. Remove nut, thick flat washer, fan, and another thick flat washer. Three screws are holding the pull string housing. Remove the housing. Three more screws and thin flat washers, and the spool is in your hand. Reassemble in reverse order.

I have a handheld blower/vac: The primer bulb is new and will not pump fuel, not even fill the bulb. I checked the fuel lines to make sure they were correct.(homelite)

I was working on a neighbor's homelite chainsaw and I replaced the primer bulb, it was not intuitive, and I hooked up the lines backwards. Also if you are replacing the primer bulb, maybe you have old fuel lines that are deteriorating and need replaced. Did you check the in tank fuel filter? If it looks dark, it may be time to change it.

I hope this helps get you going again.

How do I replace pull cord on a Mightylite UTO 8580 blower. Seems like no one has answered this question except to say to bring it into a lawnmower shop. Thanks for your help.

You can do it yourself if you have a little mechanical ability. If not, you know the options.
Here is a breakdown of the parts to your machine. Dis-assembly will be required;
http://www.ereplacementparts.com/homelite-ut08580-26cc-blower-parts-c-18807_18808_18812.html
You will need to disassemble it to the point where you reach the engine cover housing in which the starter/recoil unit is housed. Most all of these machines use Torx-head fasteners. Some people call them "star" fasteners. Take time and pay close attention to how everything is removed. It is not that difficult. Once you have the pulley for the starter isolated, you can inspect and/or repair it.There is a spring steel spring coiled under the rope pulley in the recoil unit. Untie, the old rope. You will then have to "preload" the spring's tension on the pulley so it will draw your new rope in. Turn it to tighten it about 5 to 7 revolutions and then jam it in place with a screwdriver or pair of vise grips or whatever you have available to hold it. One person can even hold it for you while you thread the new rope into in and tie it off. I suspect a new pull cord should be about 30" or so long. There is a limited amount of room on the pulley itself to house new rope. After the rope is on, make sure you thread it through the hole in the housing cover and tie the pull handle off to the other end. Then you can release whatever you had holding it. Reinstall all the parts you removed and you are done. Lay the parts out in the order you take them off to avoid confusion when you put it all back together. It's not a bad job and you just might learn something from doing it. Post back with any more questions.

Need to replace pull cord on homelite z830sb

Start from the bottom and work your way up. This is not an easy repair. You have to almost completely dissassemble the entire blower to replace the cord. You will need a T20 and T25 torx tool, a 9/16' wrench or socket, 40" of #3.5 rope and about an hour. A repair shop will typically charge $20 to $40 in labor for this repair.

I have a homelite model uto8550 26cc mighty blower/vac. On initial startup it runs at half choke then stalls when i turn it to run. Any suggestions?

1. check fuel filter in gas tank (for clogged condition).
2. Check carb jet for dirt (squirt carb cleaner in jet and fuel inlet

Summary: your carb is not getting enough fuel to mix properly with constant air flow. Therefore, fuel supply needs to be cleaned... then you will run happy!!

Will not start

Homelite leaf blowers that use whats called a half crankshaft system are prone to many problems. Whats a half crank system you ask? If there is a small aluminum plate that attaches to the side of the engine by the gas tank you have one of these. Usually held on with 4 small bolts. I just got rid of a Homelite Vac Attack 2 that had spark and compression but the compression checked low about 75 should be 90 or better. What happened, a head bolt came loose and the engine ran lean causing the fragile rings on the piston to heat up and when that happens they loose their outward spring that seals against the cyclinder walls. A simple compression check using a gauge and not your finger will tell you that. Other causes could be less than normal spark, or maybe the exhaust port under the muffler has carbon build up or the muffler is plugged up also Check all bolts, and nuts to make sure they are tight.
