It could be that your cartridges needs some cleaning. Try to follow the steps below to fix the problem:
Make sure your printer is connected to your computer and is turned on.
From your computer, go to Start menu.
Go to Programs or All Programs.
Go to Lexmark 1200 Series folder.
Select Lexmark Solution Center.
From the Maintenance tab, select Clean to fix horizontal streaks.
Your printer will then print a test page forcing ink through the cartridge nozzles and clean them from possible clogs and dirt. After successfully printing the page, try to print your document again to verify that the problem is fixed. If that doesn't help, you can manually wipe the cartridge nozzles with a slightly damped paper towel. Then reinsert the cartridges and try to print again. If the problem continues, then it could be a faulty cartridge. Try to insert a different known working cartridge or better yet a brand new genuine Lexmark cartridge. Lexmark products work best with original supplies. I hope this helps. Thanks.
Try to open Lexmark Solution Center application on your computer and check if the software recognizes the ink levels of your cartridges. Go to Start menu > Programs > Lexmark 1200 Series folder > Lexmark Solution Center.
You can also use the software to clean the cartridge nozzles for possible dirt and clogs. From the Maintenance tab, select Clean to fix horizontal streaks. Your printer will then print a test page forcing ink through the cartridge nozzles and clean them.
Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.
There is a firmware update for the Lexmark Interpret S405 printer that addresses print quality issues. Please visit the Lexmark website to download and install the Lexmark S400 Series Firmware Update. If more than one download is listed for your model, choose the first download in the list. If it is the wrong firmware level, an error message will tell you which firmware level is correct. After successfully updating your printer, try to print your document again to verify that the print quality has improved.
It could be that the cartridge has become dry. you have to try several head cleans using the printer software and if that doesnt help then the cartridge needs to be replaced.
