Question about Maytag MDB9600A Jetclean II Built-in Dishwasher

Door weight or spring no longer works

I have had this Jetclean dishwasher for over 16 years. Just recently the door has begun to feel different. It feels very heavy and drops hart. Are there springs or weights of some kind that can be replaced?

Yes tere are springs and a small pulley system located on both sides on the bottom you can order the parts and have the sent to you directly by looking up marcone appliance when u order the parts order both springs and also order the pulleys as a kit whcih also comes with the corded returns new also if you dont order them as a kit r ask for the kit you end paying more for just the pulleys alone and you might find one of those returns are broken good idea to have allthe parts replaced the first time when you do the job shut off the power diesconnect the screws that hold your dishwasher in place and pull the entire unit outward make sure u have shut off the water supply and that your hose to the water inlet vavle is long enough to be pulled outward. when you pull the unit out you willbe able to see both bottom sides and will most likely find a broken pulley or return hope this helps

I've just installed a Miele 5500SCU Dishwasher and the springs that support the door cant be adjusted far enough to take the weight of the door, does anyone have any suggestions?

If the dishwasher is brand new, then there is an issue with the configuration of the springs, i.e not mounted correctly. A factory dishwasher door should not need to be adjusted. However if it is older, it is possible that the springs came off, in which case they can be seen from the underside of the dishwasher and by a panel that unscrews on the bottom of the door. Make sure the springs are there.

Cannot open the door of the dishwasher.

Hi,
  • The latch on many dishwashers is adjustable. If your door is easy to close but difficult to latch, adjust the latch to let the door close more easily. If you can't see any way to adjust the latch, yours may be fixed in a certain position. Check for other reasons for the latching problem.

  • If the latch has worn out in a way that makes it impossible for you to close the door properly, you probably need to replace the latch.

  • Your dishwasher has two springs that counterbalance the weight of the door. If either or both of these are broken, the door feels quite heavy and you need to replace both springs.

yep you can just get springs from lowes or home dept or your local hardware store; they're often in with the hardware (i.e., screws) and not plumbing. remember that the springs need to stretch out a bit, too; so you may end up buying springs that look shorter than they should, but they eventually habituate.
