Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

My friend gave me a new air conditioner Model Zenith ZW5010 as a gift. Unfortunately my window has sliding windows and it does not fit in. I wonder if I can turn this air conditioner sideway so it can slide through one of the sliding windows. If impossible what can I do? Remove all windows and then buy plexiglas but how can it support the conditioner in the window?? Thanks sl

How can I get the water out of my 253.70121 window air conditioner outside case. The fan blades hit the water.

When I was a Maintenance Superintendent for a Senior Citizen Apartment Complex, we had two window air conditioners with the similar problem. This is what WE did, and it worked for us:

1. We ensured the window air conditioner casing was, in fact, tilted slightly for proper drainage. Water continued to accumulate.

2. We drilled two holes from the drain pan, through the casing and added an additional PVC fitting and PVC piping to accommodate the new drain and make it more appealing to the wondering eye.

Good luck.

Window kit dimentions i have a window 18 inch wide

The portable AC units generally have a customizable, exhaust hose window, termination kit that comes with the unit.. In other words it can be cut to fit. The one that comes with the unit will fit casement windows, as well as sash windows.

To further assist you, I have included a link to the Owner's/Installation Manual for the model you referenced. You may download and print it if you like.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

I don't know how to uninstall my ac

have some one steady the unit while you raise the window a bit.carefull,it may want to fall out.pull the bottom of the unit in a bit.if that dosen't change the angle, like if it's sitting on a storm window frame too, place a wood plank between edge of sill & storm window frame to raise the inside bottom of unit a bit above the sill.it only requires a few degrees of tilt.

Removal of old A/C

It depends on how YOU have it installed. It will slide out of the case and the new one MIGHT fit into the same case. This is trial & error. If not, slide the guts out, remove the case, install the new case & slide the new unit into place.
If it's a window unit, just remove the whole thing and replace it.

Window Air conditioner installation

I use sheets of styrofoam on the inside of the window. Cut it to fit the width and height you need to seal around the ac casing to inside window frame.

Through the wall vs. window installation

I just purchased an alleged "window mount" air conditioner with the closest dimensions to the existing model. Do these mount as through the wall as well? My current opening = 18 x 26" the new purchase is 16 27/32 x 26.

There are 2 different types of window air conditioners – there are the window type of which will fit in a window that opens top to bottom and there is the slide in model of which the actual air conditioner will slide into a metal sleeve which is very common in apartments. In either case you need to measure the inside of the metal sleeve and then give that to the air conditioner dealer and he will know what to do and there is also a POS (point of sale) @ the store of which will also assist you in the measurement of the A/C unit – the window unit you need to measure the opening of the window itself, I hope this was helpful
