Geezer, sounds like a defrost issue. I usually find the bi-metal to be the culprit on this model. Check out the pic. You will have to remove the back panel in the freezer and defrost the evaporator. Remove the ice maker if there is one. The back cover has 4 quarter inch screws. remove those. The air vent has 2 plastic clips one each side and one on the bottom, push in and pull the grill off. The thermistor cover has a slot for a flat blade screw driver, push in and pull the cover off. The thermistor will now slide behind the back panel. Check the bi-metal for buldging. As long as the evaporator fan is working, it's probably a defrost problem.

SOURCE: Refrigerator Not Making Ice, Frost in Freezer and Refrigerator Not Cold

It has a defrost problem.  Most likely cause would be the defrost thermostat which clips onto the evaporator behind the back panel in the freezer.  Next most common would be the defrost timer.  Third would be the defrost heater.  Let me know if you want to try to test these parts.  If so I will need the entire model # from the sticker in the fridge or on older models on a plate at the bottom front below the door.

The thermostat is not functioning the way it should leading to frost build up. You need to replace it. Should cost you around 40$

Fridge is cold, freezer is not

Please look into the freezer for frost build-up on the rear wall. If you are having a defrost problem it may limit the freezer temperature and still be cold enough for the fresh food section to remain at safe temperatures but not for long before freezer and fresh food section warms because frost blocks airflow and the evaporator is unable to keep everything cold because of frost build-up. I don't have your model number so I will list the parts that may need to be replaced. The defrost control=> 12002754 Frost Kit, defrost thermostat and 67002493 Defrost Heater Assembly

67003426 Defrost Thermostat

For testing of the defrost thermosat and defrost heater refer to the same page as the parts, If these parts are good the the 12002754 Frost Kit, could be defective. The 12002754 Frost Kit,
can be found in the control panel inside the fresh food compartment. Let me know if you have questions and also if you are not having a defrost problem, Thanks Sea Breeze

Fridge doesn't cool.

Hello, would you happen to have the make and model number of your refrigerator? In a refrigerator the freezer side of the refrigerator is the only side that produces the cold. If your refrigerator side is not cool but your freezer side is one of the first things that you would check would be to open the freezer door and look along the rear wall of the freezer to see if you notice any frost or ice build up on the rear wall. If you did this is termed as a defrost issue and message me back that you do have this situation and I will instruct you how to diagnose this to correct this situation. If you had no ice/frost build up on the rear wall you would next assure that the evaporator fan is blowing air inside of your freezer. If you felt no air blowing inside of the freezer you would then remove the rear wall on the inside rear of the freezer by unscrewing the 1/4" screws. This would give you access to the evaporator coil and above the coil would be the evaporator fan motor. I will await your reply to your finds as to if there is any ice/ frost and if the evaporator fan is blowing air inside of the freezer before further diagnosing.
Thank you
Rick

Refrigerator is to warm, freezer to cold model is ed5ghexnloosso649995

In most cases something has blocked the vent from the freezer. Sometimes you catch this at a point that the freezer seems too cold but just what may be happening is the ADC control has failed causing the evaporator to freeze over with frost blocking air flow to the fresh food section. The ADC is Adaptive Defrost Control and can be forund here=> ED5GHEXNL00 Fresh Food Section Controls in that photo location 6 is the ADC or defrost control board=> W10353224 Defrost Control Board If you disconnect refrigerator from power source and lower control panel you can look this board over on both sides. Sometimes you will see burn marks or signs of heat damage, not always.

sea_breeze_243.jpg
Second most Likely is the defrost heater behind the rear wall of your freezer=> ED5GHEXNL00 Unit Parts and in that photo part location 33 is the=> 2188175 Defrost Heater Assembly

sea_breeze_244.jpg
Ways to test this heater are on same page. Then we always need to consider the defrost thermostat found here=> ED5GHEXNL00 Air Flow Parts item 6 in that photo. At -5 to +5 degrees the contacts inside should be closed and once the freezer goes into defrost the defrost thermostat opens its contacts at 50 degrees to prevent extended defrost. Part Number=> 2321799 Look inside rear of the freezer and if a layer of frost is building on rear wall then you most likely have a defrost problem causing the freezer to be colder. If fan in freezer is working properly then you should have a steady stream of cold air flowing to the fresh food compartment. Let me know just what you find so I may assist you in the repair, Thanks, Sea Breeze

My fridge keep freezing every thing

If it were the freezer area and you had frost on the rear wall of the freezer I would say that your unit has a defrost issue. The freezer is the only area that produces cold there is an evaporator fan that blows the cold air through a diffuser or damper door located in the rear of your refrigerator. If the damper door is not closeing then your refrigerator side of the unit due to the door not being able to close would start to freeze items inside of it. Remove the diffuser door and assure that there is no frost blocking the fins or the door (some have fins that open and close others have a door ) do not have any frost build up or ice build up as well. Also assure that the door is able to open and close. If the door has ice, frost, or you are not able to open and close the door you would replace the diffuser door in the unit. If the door has no ice and opens and closes properly then you would look at the thermostat for the refrigerator which is located usually in the ceiling and is attached to the knob that you would use to make the tempreture on the refrigerator side colder. If you have any further questions message me back. Please also remember when our chat has fully concluded to rank how this opinion has helped in your appliance situation it allows me to continue helping others in similar situations in the future. If you need a schematic of your unit message me back the make and the model number. Thanks again

Refrigerator does not freeze enough

Lets have a look at rear wall of freezer, is there frost building up? Usually in top freezers the cold air settles to bottom and you don't notice fresh food section until about a day. If frost is building open fresh food sections door and in control panel=> CLICK HERE see item 257 in photo? That is WR9X565 or 311082 Defrost Timer Just below that is the control panel cover and you should have a small plastic plug covering a hole just below the defrost timer. Pry plastic plug out and using a flathead screwdriver turn the defrost timer clockwise slowly. Once you hear the compressor and fans stop stop turning timer and about a minute later you should hear some crackling noise coming from freezer. Allow to stay like that for up to 30 minutes and timer should come out of defrost and compressor and fans should start again on their own. If this action caused defrost then replace the defrost timer. If that does not seem to cause defrost the we need to go to step two, unplug and place items in a cooler or alternate refrigerator and use a hair dryer to assist in melting the ice behind rear panel. Remove rear panel in back of freezer and see => Freezer Components item's 621 and WR51X10038 or 880036 Defrost Heater Assembly
You will need to remove rear panel and work with refrigerator unplugged from power. On this=> Page watch how to test your defrost element just beside a photo of the timer. Most times I replace the defrost thermostat while inside freezer wall but I will let you try this first and please respond and rate, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Freezer builds up with frost about every 60-75 days. have to empty the freezer and allow to thaw for a few hours

I think I can assume the freezer isn't a "frost-free".
A short physics lesson; hot air holds more moisture than cold air; hot air will flow from a warm area to a colder area, and the colder area will cause the moisture to condensate and freeze(if colder area below freezing, as a freezer should be), causing frost build up.The more often the freezer is opened, the more frost will build up.
Now for 3 possibilities:1) If it is a self-defrosting type, check your defrost timer control...not working, or not working often enough.2) Door seals damaged and need replacement.3)Make the kids stay out of freezer.

Bottom frig is not cold enough. just connected after 1 yr

Ok do this. Boil some water in a pot then use that to defrost the freezer. This is caused by ice build up in the vent that is keeping the cold air from coming into the refrigerator. Make sure it is defrost completel though cause the ice that is built up is mostly inside and can't be seen. That will solve ur problem I guarantee. Then set the temperature to normal. Like half way. This keeps the frost from building up. Believe it or not as refrigerators get a bit older they actually get even colder and therefore frost build up is more likely. Since no refrigeration can be made completely leak proof, small amount of the freon has leaked out older fridge, and this actually cause it to get colder. You don't need a service technician just defrost then set to a lower setting thats it.

Freezer too cold, refridgerator not cold

This is a little different that normally what I hear. First let's see if frost is building up on the freezer rear wall. If yes we need to unplug and manually defrost. Or you can test the defrost timer found inside the fresh food compartment behind the control panel where you adjust temperatures. Your model also has a damper that you manually slide to allow or restrict cold air from freezer. It may take a few questions and answers from you and I but we will find the problem. First answer is there frost building in freezer on rear wall? I have parts and user manuals for your model and I need to decide what is going on. Waiting on your reply, Sea Breeze

Amana energy saver not keeping fridge section cool enough. HELP!

if there is frost build up on rear wall of freezer section the unit is not going through defrost cycle which builds up frost on evaporator and restricts cold air flow to the fresh food section. one of three things are bad. defrost heater, defrost thermostat or defrost timer. if no frost on rear wall you might be low of freon.

New Refrigerator Past Warantee Not staying cold

is the fan in the freezer running? if not then the air cant circulate and nothing will cool properly. if is running, is there frost build up on the inside back wall of the freezer? if so you have a defrost problem. if no frost on the back and the fan is running, remove the back panel inside the freezer and make sure all of the silver coils have light frost on them. if only part of them are frosted get out your manual and look at the warranty section. then seal system may have a 5 year warranty. if it does then call sear for warranty service. if the coils only have partial frost and its not under a 5 year warranty buy a new frig. because repair will cost more than its worth
