Question about Computers & Internet

I need to limit access to my wlan router. How do I do it? I typed 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of the Internet Explorer and hit enter. I then typed admin in the username box and password in the password box but it did not work. I also tried leaving the username box blank and typed admin in the password box but it also did not work. I'm using a wireless-g WRT54G router. Thanks.

You could try "admin" as the username and "password1" as the password, or "admin" as the username and no password. If neither of those work, you might have to contact Linksys tech support.

Once you get into your router's settings, there are several things you can do to limit access to your router. The first thing is to change the default password. You can also change your network name (SSID), enable MAC filtering, or turn on WEP, WPA, or WPA2 security, depending on which options your router and computers support.

I typed 192.168.0.1 in the bar thingy but the table thing keeps coming up gray, even if I go to quick start to set it up. Why?

Hello,
You might be entering a wrong IP address. To confirm you are entering the correct address please press windows key + r (Win+r) you will get the run bar. In this run bar type CMD and hit enter. You will get the command prompt. In the command prompt type IPCONFIG and hit enter. You will see a list of details. Make a note of the Default gateway and enter it in the address bar of your internet explorer or any browser. Even after entering if its not working then try resetting the router and try again.
Hope this helped.!

I m unable to access the internet using the routter , how can i reset the dlink -524 wirless?

There is a small-pinhole on the back of the router next to where you plug in the power adapter. In that pin-hole is the reset button. Stick something in there and hold for 30sec, this will reset your router back to it's default factory settings.

Now you need to setup your router again. On a computer that is attached to the router by an ethernet (LAN) cord, open up internet explorer and type in the default IP Address for your router into the address bar. In your case, the default IP Address is
192.168.0.1
If that does not bring up a login window, then you should go to Start > Run
and in the Run window, type CMD and hit enter (in Vista and Win 7 just select the Start Orb and type CMD into the search bar). In the command prompt window that opened up, type IPCONFIG /ALL and hit enter. You're looking for Default Gateway (that's your router). Write down that IP address and then type it into your address bar of Internet Explorer or your web browser.
Now that the login window for your router is open, you will login with the default login information which is "admin" for the UserName (there is no password) now hit the ok button.
Click on the Wireless button on the left-hand side of the screen. Type in your SSID (this is the name of the network, you can name it whatever you wish).
Leave Channel set to 6.
If you wish to use security (which you should) select your preferred method, for now we'll just use WEP.
Pick Enabled for it.
Select your level of encryption (64bit or 128bit)
select HEX or ASCII and create a key. If you create it in Key 1 Field, select that field, now hit apply at the bottom of your screen.
Now your router is reset and set back up. Now you need to conenct to your SSID on your wireless computers and input your WEP key and you will connectt.
Hope this helps!

I have a westell 7500 series router from centurylink and i am trying to find out how to get "in" the router to change the username and password.

I believe you type 192.168.1.1 into your browser's address bar, hit enter and you're there. Some say you have to use Internet Explorer (version 5.5 or later), not sure though.

I need to limit access to my linksys wlan. How do I do it?

Hi Friend,

Type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of the Internet Explorer and hit enter. Do not type anything in username and type admin in password(only if you have not set the router password).

Now click Access Restrictions tab. Click Enable and restrict the acess according to your need.

Cannot get on the internet.need key

If u r using a router then u would need to open the router page.
To open the router page u can open the command prompt by typing cmd in run window, then type ipconfig in the command prompt and hit enter it will show u the ip address, subnet mask and default gateway.

We need to type the default gateway in the address bar of the internet explorer and hit enter and it should open the router page.
On the router pages u can go to the wireless settings and can find the encryption key there.

It would be easier if u connect ur comp using the cable to ur router and then do these steps.

Configuration page doesn't load

1. can you ping the router? go star>run>cmd and type ping 192.168.0.50
if the ping times out or says it's unreachable, check your network connections (cables are fully seated and there leds are blinking properly)
2. try to type 192.168.0.50 on the address bar and hit enter, did you change the ip address on the router before?? if you did and can't remember what ip address you gave to it you may need to reset your router.
3. try the same ip address in another browser (IE, chrome, firefox), Make sure your browser has Java, JavaScript, or ActiveX enabled. If you are using Internet Explorer, click Refresh to be sure the Java applet is loaded.
4. are you using the right the correct user name and password? enter 'admin' (lower case) and hit enter or the password you may have configured, if you can't remember what that was reset your router.

you router's manual can be downloaded from here

good luck
