This is addressed on IDE ATA drives... (1) - Have you tried a different IDE cable? If not give it a go and do a repair if needed again!.....

(2) - You may have a corrupt MBR (master boot record)!! You will need to reformat and do Fdisk /mbr to delete the master boot record!! Save all data first as this will not allow you to access any of your data as all file location addresses are located in the MBR!!

.....(3) - Your harddrive may have a bad sector get a zerofill tool(low level formatting tool)!! This will rewrite you HD's sectors putting them back to factory spec's!! Maxtors is called Maxblast you can get it from thier site!!

....(4) - or it could be a defective drive, but most read errors are due ot corrupt MBR or a bad sector!!

Hope this has helped you... Please rate the answer... thanks...

Emachine el1331g-01w wont boot past windows it gets to the windows and reboots

instead of pressing F12, use F8, (pressing repeatedly,) you should see the Advanced Boot Options Menu. Select one of the "Safe Mode..." optiions.

if you get to the desktop, then restart the PC and see if it boots normally. if it does, great. Back-up your data.

If it does not, then power-down the PC. Disconnect the Power cord and all other cables excepting the keyboard and the mouse (unless using wireless ones.)

power up the the PC and see if it boots normally. if it does, then likely there is a Device Driver conflict going-on. You will need to power-off and connect your devices one at a time and power-on to find out which of them needs to be updated....or if you have current Drivers, then un-install and re-install the device Drivers.

I have an e-machines Model EL1331G-01w. I recently got a used larger monitor. After a few hours or funning, the CPU revved up for a few seconds, making sounds like it does when starting up. Is ths...

the monitor shouldn't affect your cpu to cause any harm. If you connected the monitor and your computer was able to use it and display a descent image it is ok to use.

if you changed the resolution on your desktop to a higher resolution you will only be using slightly more processing power to get the image out.

based on the specs of that computer, you should be able to display 1920x1080 with ease.

Something to note: if you have had this computer for a while and have not properly cleaned it, you should do so in order to reduce heat and increase the lifespan.

Here is a very simple how-to on cleaning your computer:

I have a e machine model 633ID tower running windows xp o.s. I installed a used harddrive that works fine have pc up and running after installing windows updates on restart screen flashed disassembly...

it sounds liek hyou corrupted the windows build. did you follow the instruction and rebooted when each update wanted you to? sometimes if you get out of order by not booting when you are supposed to this kind of thing happens. Try rebuilding your windows with a repair installation of the OS. that will probably work. If not you will have to reinstall from scratch with your OEM disks that you built when you bought teh machine.

Computer freezes on boot up

make sure the mouse and keyboard are in right connections...if you look closely youll see icons next to ports.
try without mouse at first start up ,load windows and use key with windows logo on it to access start and scroll to shutdown tab and restart...plug in the mouse before restart.
if logo tab isnt assigned press ctrl + esc to access start menu.
