Question about Lexmark Office Equipment & Supplies

I installed new XL cartridges in my lexmark S405 and it is telling me my cartridges are empty, can anyone help?

Make sure the small tab that come on the new cartridge is taken off. CHeck to make sure the toner is pushed in all the way. Then do a cleaing on the printer and do a test run.
This should solve the problem.

Lexmark S405 isn't printing color when I just bought new cartridges.


Make sure that you're using genuine Lexmark cartridges. Also, check if the firmware of your printer is up to date. Just go to http://bit.ly/ghfW8H to download the firmware update.


Performing a maintenance on the cartridges would also help. To do that, on the control panel of your printer, press on Setup > Maintenance > Deep Clean Printhead.

If you're using a genuine Lexmark cartridge, try to reseat the cartridge and unplug the power of the printer for about 30 seconds.

If you're using a remanufactured/refilled cartridge, it will not detect the ink levels and might damage the printhead.

Lexmark S405 false empty cartridge


Update your printer firmware http://bit.ly/t7sPJR . If you'er still having problems, try replacing the cartridges (please make sure you're using genuine Lexmark cartridges). Compatible or non genuine Lexmark carts may or may not work with the printer.

Lexmark S405 : printer will not print until the black ink cartridge is replaced


Smash printer with axe or sledgehammer. Grin maniacally. After researching on internet,go out & buy new printer that allows you to print till empty & refill again! Obviously not a Lexmark...

Empty color cartridge error


The printer needs all cartridges with sufficient ink levels for you to be able to print. The printer will prime every once in a while thus the need for all cartridges to have ink - this will prevent damaging the printhead.

Make sure that your printer firmware code is updated. Please visit the Lexmark website to download and install the Lexmark S400 Series Firmware Update. If more than one download is listed for your model, choose the first download in the list. If it is the wrong firmware level, an error message will tell you which firmware level is correct. The firmware update addresses the problem you mention - printer having trouble recognizing the cartridges and it will help improve your printer's overall performance.
Should the problem continue even after updating your printer, it would be best to contact Lexmark technical support center for additional assistance.

If it is the wrong firmware level, an error message will tell you which firmware level is correct.

Hi I bought a lexmark S405 and when my ink finished, i decided to refill the black catridge but the print wont print unless i buy a new catridge which is expensive than buying a new printer. I wanna...


The Lexmark S405 printer requires all cartridges to have ink in them to continue printing.

The 100/100XL cartridges are not licensed to be refilled. You can, however, refill the 100A or 100XLA cartridges available on the Lexmark website at http://www.lexmark.com. You should be aware that a refilled cartridge will not be able to report its ink level, and you might not get the print quality you expect from ink that is specially formulated by Lexmark to pass through microscopic nozzles at extremely high temperatures.

The printer says unable to autheticate black ink


Please make sure you are using genuine Lexmark black cartridge. It could be due to a communication problem between your cartridge and the printhead. Try to re-seat the black cartridge in the printhead.
If error continues, make sure your printer is updated. You can download and install the firmware update for the Lexmark S405 printer by visiting the Lexmark website at http://bit.ly/s405fw.
